Admission to Ph.D. Programme in Hindi, 2026
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. programme in Hindi, University of Calcutta for the session 2026. Reservation of SC/ST/PH/OBC etc. will be as per 100 points roster and applicable as per the rules of the "West Bengal Higher Education Institutions (reservation in admission) rules.
Candidates having MA in Hindi with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (relaxation will be given as per norms) are eligible to apply. Admission to the Ph.D. programme will be done through a Research Eligibility Test (RET) followed by an interview. However candidates exempted from the RET are required to appear for the interview only.
The list of eligible candidates to appear in the Written Research Eligibility Test (RET) will be notified on notice board of Room no. 216 on 17.04.2026. The RET will be held on 21.04.2026 Time: 1:00 - 3:00pm, Duration: 2:00 hrs. Marks: 50 Candidates must obtain qualifying marks-50% for General category and 45% for SC/ST category to qualify for interview. The venue of the RET is the classroom of the Department of Hindi, Room number- 316, 2nd Floor, Asutosh Building, Asutosh Shiksha Prangan, 87/1, College Street Kolkata - 700073).
Candidates with MA in Hindi / Hindi with M.Phil or NET/SET/SLET are exempted from RET. All other candidates are required to appear for the RET.

The entire admission process and all other matters related to the Ph.D. Programme in the Department of Hindi will be governed by the University of Calcutta, (Regulation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D.), Regulations 2016 and/or the time to time changes made by the concerned authority on the same. The candidates are requested to submit their PhD research proposal (within 1000 words) at the time of interview.
Candidates are requested to bring their credentials in original at the time of interview.
The answer scripts of the examination would be coded before correction as per standard practice. There willbe 2 (two) long answer type questions,each of 15 marks,and 2 (two ) short answer type questions.cach of 10 marks.
