Bengal Music College has been upgraded to the Department of Performing Arts and Music w.e.f. 2024-2025. Henceforth admission portal will be available in the name of the Department of Performing Arts and Music, University of Calcutta.

Applications are invited from eligible **Graduate of the current year and preceding years since 2022 from University of Calcutta and other UGC recognized University / Institute.

Eligibility Criteria for 2 Year M.Music (M.Mus.) (Group 261) Course:

  • B.Mus. Hons./Single Major subject or
  • B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Hons./ Single Major subject with Music as General/ GE/ Minor Subject or
  • B.Mus. without Hons./Single Major subject or
  • B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. General or MDC with Music as one of the Subject or
  • B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Hons. without Music as General/ GE/ Minor Subject.
  • All the candidates must have at least 55% of marks in Hons./Graduation.
  • All the candidates should passed graduation level degree in the year from 2026 to 2022.

  • Hindusthani Classical Music (vocal)
  • Rabindra Sangit
  • Bengali Songs
Total Seat for 2 Yr. M.Music (2025): 91 (UR-40+SC-21+ST-5+OBCA-9+OBCB-7+EWS-9)
Total Seat for 2 Yr. M.Music (from 2026): 73 (UR-32+SC-17+ST-4+OBCA-7+OBCB-6+EWS-7)
Total Seat for 1 Yr. M.Music (from 2027): 18 (UR-8+SC-4+ST-1+OBCA-2+OBCB-1+EWS-2)

For PWD Candidates 5% Seats are reserved category wise horizontally
  • PART-A: 60% of total seats (2 Yr. PG Course)
    - Current year C.U. **Graduate (5th semester passed/appeared) students.
  • PART-B: 40% of total seats (2 Yr. PG Course)
    - Current year C.U. **Graduate (5th semester passed/appeared) students.
    - Previous years C.U. **Graduate students.
    - Current year Other University 5th semester passed / appeared students.
    - Previous years Other University passed students.
    - Stipulation of the year of passing the qualifying examination is current year plus 4 preceding years.
**Graduate means:
• 4 Yr. B.Sc. up to 6th Semester (5th semester appeared/passed) or
• 3 Yr. B.Sc. Hons. or
• 3 Yr. B.Sc. with Single major subject.

C.U. candidate means candidate who passed the required last qualifying Examination as eligibility degree for admission in relevant P.G. courses from Calcutta University.

Non-C.U. candidate means candidate who passed the required last qualifying Examination as eligibility degree for admission in relevant P.G. courses from the University other than Calcutta University.

Relaxation and cut off marks for reserved category candidates as per C.U. P.G. admission regulation of M.Sc. Courses.

Entrance Test:
For Group 261 (M.Music)
Entrance Test conducted by the Department of Performing Arts & Music. Entrance Test involved Practical and viva voce.

Merit List & Selection Criteria:
  • Merit List:
    1) Merit list of C.U. current year candidates with B.Mus. Hons. / Single Major subject will be prepared by the % of Marks obtained in B.Mus. Hons. / Single Major subject upto 5th semester.
    2) Merit list of all other candidates and all Non-CU candidates will be made through an Entrance Test to be conducted by the department.
  • Selection Criteria:
    Selection will be made strictly on the basis of merit subject to availability of seat.
    B.Mus. Hons. candidates will be given preference in both PART-A (C.U. Graduate) and PART-B (NON C.U. Graduate)
For Foreign National/International Candidate:
For Foreign National/International Students 15% additional super numerical seat (15% ofthe total seats)is earmarked.

For foreign/International student Tuition Fee will be $ 300.00 or equivalent INR per semester for all courses. All other fees will be as like Indian Students.

N.B.: The Schedule of Admission is subject to change on demand of the situation and will be notified accordingly. Candidates are requested to check the website regularly for any updates.

Those Non-CU Candidates required Equivalence Clearance, will be provided payment link after getting clearance from Registrar department, C.U. Accordingly date of payment for those candidates will differ.

instruction for submission of Online Application Form for M.Music Courses
  • Candidate should be enrolled first and filled up the application form through online mode at www.caluniv.ac.in / www.caluniv-ucsta.net.
  • To submit online application need the following:
    • A softcopy of recent Passport size (3.5cm x 3.5 cm.) colour photo (in .jpg / .jpeg format less than 20 kb size).
    • A softcopy of signature of the candidate (in jpg/ jpeg format less than 20kb size).
    • Scan copy of all mark sheets from standard 10th onwards within max size 200kb in .jpg/.jpeg format each.
    • Scan copy of age proof within max size 200kb in .jpg/.jpeg format.
    • Scan copy of VALID SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/EWS (if applicable) certificate within max size 200kb in .jpg/.jpeg format
    • Scan copy of domicile certificate (if applicable) within max size 200kb in .jpg/.jpeg format.
  • E-mail Id should be less than 30 characters.(Password should contain at least one capital letter, one numerical, one small letter and one special character).
  • Create APAAR Id / ABC Id (Please see the instruction how to create APAAR Id / ABC Id).
  • After successful submission of Application Form, download & take a printout of the duly filled in application.
  • Download the Anti Ragging Format from the admission portal and submit the same after signed by the Guardian and the candidate himself / herself before admission and scan copy of duly filled in Anti Ragging Format within max size 200kb in .jpg/.jpeg format. The same to be printed on court paper followed by affidavit by Public Notary and to be submitted in the admission office before commencement of class.
  • Sign all pages of application form as well as all documents.
  • Payment link for payment of residual amount will be provided to the candidate after verification of CU online application.
  • After successful payment of residual amount roll no. will be provided to the candidate.
Scan copy of all uploaded documents must be readable
If it is found that any information given by the candidate is not in conformity with the original documents, the admission will be treated as cancelled.
