Hostel Allotment & Module Notification 2026

Notification on Hostel Allotment and Implementation of Hostel Module

It is notified for information to all concerned that a Joint Meeting of the Heads of all Academic Departments, Wardens, Deputy Wardens, Hostel Prefects and concerned Officials of Gauhati University was held on 26th August, 2026 at P.D. Seminar Hall, Gauhati University, under the chairmanship of the Registrar, Gauhati University, to deliberate upon hostel allotment and the implementation of the Hostel Module for the Academic Session 2026–27 and the following resolutions were adopted:

Resolution No. 1: Any student of the 1st Semester Postgraduate (PG) programme who has been allotted a hostel seat and fails or refuses to complete hostel admission formalities through the SAMARTH portal on or before 31st August 2026 shall have such allotment stand forfeited with immediate effect. No such student shall thereafter be considered for, or granted, hostel accommodation at any stage during the entire duration of the PG programme to which he/she is admitted.



Resolution No. 2: The online payment link for the allotted hostel list shall remain active until 11:55 P.M. on 31st August 2026. This deadline is final and non-extendable; no request for an extension shall be entertained under any circumstances.

Resolution No. 3: With effect from 1st September 2026, all seats remaining vacant on account of non-compliance under Resolution No. 1 shall be offered, strictly in order of merit, to waitlisted 1st Semester PG students and/or FYIMP students of the 7th, 5th, 3rd and 1st Semesters sequentially, in accordance with the applicable hostel allotment policy of the University.

Resolution No. 4: Participation in inter-hostel competitions during Gauhati University Varsity Week shall be strictly restricted to students who have completed hostel admission through the Hostel module and are formally registered as boarders of the respective hostel. All such verifications shall be done centrally by the office of the Secretary, University Classes, Gauhati University, adopting an appropriate mechanism.

Resolution No. 5: Every hostel shall mandatorily maintain a Stock Register, and the Warden/Deputy Warden of the respective hostel shall be responsible for ensuring that all hostel furniture, fixtures, and other movable items are accurately recorded and kept updated therein at all times. Any discrepancy noticed by the Wardens/Deputy Wardens during routine inspection shall be reported immediately to the University administration.

Resolution No. 6: It shall be compulsory for every boarder to join the hostel mess without exception. The Warden/Deputy Warden of each hostel shall ensure a strict monthly audit of mess expenditure and accounts in accordance with Hostel rules and shall submit the audited statement to the University administration.

Resolution No. 7: Every Hostel prefect shall mandatorily maintain a Guest Register recording particulars of all visitors, with due permission of the Warden/Deputy Warden on a regular basis without fail. Any lapse in the maintenance or reporting of the Guest Register shall be taken seriously by the University.
