PhD Counselling Notification for GURET Qualified Candidates, 2026

It is for the information of all Heads of the Academic Departments that counselling of candidates from among the GURET-2026 merit list and candidates for whom GURET-2026 was not conducted [Physical Science, Electronics & Communication Engineering, French (Foreign Language), Instrumentation & USIC, Geological Sciences, and Persian] will be conducted by the respective departments as per the following guidelines.

1. The cut off subject to the condition mentioned below (A) & (B) to call for counselling will be maximum three (3) times the number of available seats of the respective departments. The criteria for reservation, while calling candidates for counselling should be maximum three (3) times the number of candidates from respective categories as applicable irrespective of unreserved list which should not go beyond the cut off marks stated below [(A) & (B)]. In case of candidates at the cut off securing the same marks they are to be called for counselling.
   • (A) For unreserved category: cut off 30 marks
   • (B) For reserved category except EWS: cut off 20 marks
2. Departments will consider the GURET-2026 merit list and counselling for selection of the candidates by verifying necessary credentials. Those who are employed (Including GU employee) need to produce No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the respective employer on or before the day of counselling, failing which their candidature will not be considered. On the day of counselling all the relevant certificates (mark sheets, caste certificates including NCL, Current Financial year EWS, NOC) are to be verified by the respective departments.
3. For selection, GURET-2026 score must be given 60% weightage and the rest 40% weightage from counselling. The process of counselling shall be decided by the respective department.




4. The reservation as Govt. of Assam norms be applied for selection of candidates as follows:

5. Department will notify the names of candidate (separately for different categories) called for counselling on any date(s) (30/07/2026 to 03/08/2026). The list should be uploaded in the individual department website and a copy of the same must be submitted to the System Officer with a request to upload the same in GU website.
6. Departments for whom GURET-2026 was not conducted [Applied Science (Physical Science), Electronics & Communication Engineering, French (Foreign Language), Instrumentation & USIC, Geological Sciences, and Persian] shall select candidates on basis of counselling only.
7. Department are requested to send the selected candidates list to the office of the Academic Registrar on or before 03-08-2026 for uploading in the GU website.
8. The selected candidates have to complete online admission process through SAMARTH on 04/08/2026.
9. The classes of Ph.D. course work will commence from 05/08/2025
10. The academic departments need to complete the whole process of course work including submission of course work result by 31/12/2026
