Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme (w.e.f. Academic Session 2026-27) in various subjects, as per the regulations governing research programmes leading to the award of the Doctor of Philosophy degree of Murshidabad Maharaja Krishnanath University, Berhampore, in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022.

Application Process:
Candidates are required to submit their applications online through the official admission portal https://phd.msduniv.ac.in/studentlogin.aspx

Application Fees
A non-refundable application fee (plus applicable transaction charges, if any) shall be paid through online mode. Candidates are advised to retain a copy of the payment receipt/e-receipt generated after the successful completion of the online transaction for future reference. The application fee must be paid through a Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Candidates who have obtained a 1-year/2-semester Master’s Degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s Degree, or a 2-year/4-semester Master’s Degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 55% marks in aggregate (or its equivalent grade), are eligible to apply. Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s Degree Programme (with Research) must have secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale, wherever the grading system is followed. Candidates possessing an M.Phil. degree with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) are also eligible to apply.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks, or an equivalent relaxation in grade, may be granted to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and other categories as per the provisions of the UGC Regulations and the notifications issued by the Government of West Bengal from time to time.
  • Subject to the fulfilment of the conditions stipulated in clauses (i), or (ii) above, candidates who have qualified in the UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET under any of the prescribed categories (i.e., eligible for admission to Ph.D. with JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor; eligible for admission to Ph.D. without JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor; or eligible for admission to Ph.D. only), as well as candidates who have qualified in SET/SLET/GATE/ICMR/CEED/DBT or similar national-level tests, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. Programme.
  • Candidates in the final semester/year of the qualifying degree may apply provisionally; such candidates must produce the final mark sheet/degree certificate before the date of interview/admission, failing which their candidature shall stand cancelled.
  • Reservation as per existing rules and regulations would be followed. Any further direction from the higher authorities regarding reservation policy will be duly implemented.
  • Relaxation as per the UGC Guidelines.
  • In-service candidates have to submit No Objection Certificate from their Employer during the time of admission.

  • This application form is common to all subjects. Applicants are advised to carefully select the appropriate department while filling out the form.
  • Please select the department you wish to seek admission to. Only ONE department can be selected per application form. If you wish to apply for more than one program, use separate application forms.
  • Please fill the application form only in ENGLISH, unless it is specified to write in any other language.
  • Duly filled online applications with all required enclosures must be submitted electronically on or before the last date notified by the university.
  • Self-attested copies of all mark sheets and certificates must be uploaded.
  • The subject in which the applicant has qualified in UGC-NET with JRF (Cat-1) / UGC-NET, Asst. Prof. eligible (Cat-2) / UGC-NET (Cat-3) / CSIR-NET / SET / SLET / GATE / ICMR / CEED / DBT or similar national-level tests must correspond to the subject offered by the concerned Department for the Ph.D. programme.
  • Candidates appearing in the final semester / year examination may apply provisionally. However, failure to submit the final mark sheet / certificate before interview / admission will lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • Before final submission of Application Form, read the declaration carefully and give your consent on it, failing which your application will remain incomplete.
  • The processing of Application Form will begin only after the successful payment of Application Fee. If you opt for more than one programme, kindly pay application fee for each course separately.
  • Incomplete, or incorrect applications shall be liable to rejection.
  • The university reserves the right to cancel the entire Ph.D. admission process at any stage, if demand necessary.
