Notice regarding Eligibility Criteria for Admission into the Ph.D. Programme, 2026-27

Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. Programme, 2026-27 in Adivasi Studies, Bengali, Commerce, Economics, English, Gandhian Studies, Hindi, History, Library & Information Science, Management, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit, Sociology, Women's Studies, Anthropology, Bio-Medical Laboratory Science & Management, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Environmental Studies, Fisheries Science, Geography, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Physiology, Remote Sensing & GIS and Zoology. The candidates will have to fill in the Application Form through the online portal of the University website (http://vidyasagar.ac.in ), which will be available with effect from 03/07/2026. After successful completion of all the steps(e.g. filling in the personal details, academic details, uploading photo and signature), the candidates will have to pay Rs. 700/- only (plus convenience fee & GST, if applicable) as application fee for the Ph. D. Programme through online mode of payment (credit/debit, net banking etc.) only.
The last date of submission of online application is 17/07/2026.

Eligibility Criteria for application:
Candidate who has completed a 1-year/2-semester Master's Degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachlor's Degree; or a 2-year/4-semester Master's Degree after a 3-year Bachelor's Degree; or qualifications declare equivalent to the Master's Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body shall be eligible for admission. The candidate has to obtain at least 55% marks in the General Category and 50% marks in the SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently Abled / Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's Degree (Hons. with Research) should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale.

However the following provisions are to be noted:

  • the candidate is not currently admitted as a student in any full-time course of studies or registered for doing Ph.D. in any university;
  • candidates who have regular M.Tech. / or a degree deemed to be equivalent by the Board of Research Studies shall be exempted from appearing at the Research Eligibility Test for this purpose and will have to appear only at an interview to be conducted by the Ph.D. Committee;
  • candidates who have qualified the UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR NET / GATE / SET / CEED or any other examinations, considered equivalent by the BRS, shall also be exempted from appearing at the Research Eligibility Test and will have to appear at an interview;
  • final Semester UG (Hons. with Research) / PG students are eligible to apply for the Ph.D. Programme provided that they fulfil the above requirements during admission.
