Revised notification regarding Admission into the Ph.D. Programme 2026-27 in Arts, Commerce and Science

In supersession of the earlier Notification No. VU/R/Ph/D/801/2026 dated 24.06.2026, applications are invited from the eligible intending candidates who have qualified the UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/SET/CEED/regular M.Tech or any other examinations, considered equivalent by the Board of Research Studies of Vidyasagar University, for admission into the Ph.D. Programme - 2026-2027 in Adivasi Studies, Bengali, Commerce, Economics, English, Gandhian Studies, Hindi, History, Library & Information Science, Management, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit, Sociology, Women's Studies, Anthropology, Bio-Medical Laboratory Science & Management, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Environmental Studies, Fisheries Science, Geography, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Physiology, Remote Sensing & GIS and Zoology.
The candidates will have to fill in the Application Form through the online portal of the University website (http://vidyasagar.ac.in ), which will be available with effect from 03/07/2026. After successful completion of all the steps (e.g. filling in the personal details, academic details, uploading photo and signature), the candidates will have to pay Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees one thousand) only (plus convenience fee & GST, if applicable) for unreserved category and Rs. 700/- (Rupees seven hundred) only (plus convenience fee & GST, if applicable) for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Persons with Disabilities as application fee for the Ph.D. Programme through online mode of payment (credit card / debit card, net banking etc.) only.
The last date for submission of online application is 17/07/2026.

Eligibility Criteria for admission to Ph.D. Programme:
Candidate who has completed a 1-year/2-semester Master's Degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's Degree; or a 2-year/4-semester Master's Degree after a 3-year Bachelor's Degree; or qualifications declare equivalent to the Master's Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body shall be eligible for admission. The candidate has to obtain at least 55% marks in the General Category and 50% marks in the SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Persons with Disabilities, Economically Weaker Section(EWS) categories. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's Degree (Honours with Research) should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale.
However, the following provisions are to be noted:

• application of the candidates failing to fulfill minimum eligibility criteria of admission will be rejected;
• the candidate is not currently admitted as a student in any full-time course of studies or registered for doing Ph.D. in any university;
• selection of candidates for admission into the Ph.D. programme will be made through an interview to be conducted by the University.
• final Semestar UG (Hons. with Research )/PG students are eligible to apply for the Ph. D. Programme provided that they fulfil the above requirements during admission.
