2-year Post Graduate (NEP) M.A. and M.Sc. Admission 2026-2028

All aspiring candidates seeking admission to the Postgraduate (PG-NEP) Programmes in Botany, Physics, Zoology, and Bengali for the 2026–2028 academic session are hereby informed that the Barasat Government College Online Admission Portal (https://bgc.ac.in/) will be accessible for online application submissions from 12 July 2026 to 18 July 2026. Important Information and General Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must follow the Admission Schedule attached to this notice (Annexure I).
  • No application fee will be charged for submission of the online application.
  • All admissions to any PG Course will be provisional, subject to verification of eligibility criteria and other regulations.
  • Application forms (https://forms.gle/ur2maJH9jd7zFfJ7A ) that remain incomplete or lack adequate supporting documents after the correction or update period will be automatically rejected. Moreover, a candidate's admission will be cancelled at any stage if he/she is found to have suppressed any fact or information regarding a previous degree, year of passing, or any information that may render him/her ineligible.
  • In accordance with the National Education Policy, the University has decided to offer a 2-year PG Program under the NEP Curriculum for students intending to pursue after 3 (Three) years of UG Honours programme under the CBCS System / Major under the NEP System.
  • Eligibility Criteria for application:
    • WBSU or Non-WBSU UG students with an Honours/Major Subject under the NEP system who have passed the 5th Semester Examination and are pursuing the 6th semester in 2026 are eligible to apply for admission, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.
    • WBSU or Non-WBSU undergraduate students with Honours who have passed the 5th semester examination and are currently pursuing the 6th semester in 2026 under the CBCS system are eligible to submit applications for admission, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.
    • WBSU or Non-WBSU undergraduate students with Honours who have passed the three-year Honours programme from 2021 onwards under the CBCS Regulations are eligible to submit applications for admission to the two-year NEP Postgraduate (PG) programme, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.
  • Seat allotment:

    In pursuance of the Notification 638-Edn(U)/HED-12016(21)/5/2025-UNV SEC-Dept. of HE, dated 18.05.2026 of the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, the ratio for Home University and other University students shall be 80:20. However, the unfilled Home University Seats, if any, will be filled up by the outside University students and vice versa in PG courses.

    As per the Notification of the affiliating University, West Bengal State University, 50% of the total intake capacity per subject will be open for 2-year PG admission for 2026-2027, and the remaining 50% will be reserved for 1-year PG admission for 2027-2028. The detailed category-wise seat allocation is given in Annexure II.

  • For submission of the application online and all notifications related to PG admission 2026, please visit: https://bgc.ac.in/ under PG Admission. Prospective students will not be called for counselling or document verification during the admission process. No physical presence is required at the colleges. However, applicants may contact the admission committee for technological support/queries related to admission via email at pgadmission2026@bgc.ac.in, and via WhatsApp during office hours at 9088613241.
  • Admissions shall be conducted exclusively based on the prepared admission merit list, using the calculated Average SGPA of the first five semesters for NEP students with a Major subject and the Average SGPA of the six semesters for CBCS students.
  • Eligible applicants will be informed directly by the college authority through email or message for provisional admission.
  • Payment of admission fees (Annexure III) is to be done only through a deposit pay-in slip of the Union Bank. Account details and a scanned copy of the Union Bank deposit pay-in slip are available on the college website or can be collected from the bank.
  • Physical verification of original documents will be conducted on the Commencement of Classes as well as after the publication of the Semester VI results and mark sheets.
  • The provisional admission of candidates who fail to qualify in Semester VI shall stand cancelled upon publication of the Semester VI results.

All applicants are advised to carefully read the above guidelines and adhere to the prescribed schedule. They are also requested to regularly visit the College website and the PG Admission Portal for updates and further notifications.

Economically Weaker Section (EWS) = 10%, Scheduled Castes (SC) = 22%, Scheduled Tribes (ST)= 6%, Other Backward Classes (OBC*) = 7%, UR=Unreserved, Persons with Disabilities (PwD)= 5% (if any), Reservation of seats is as per Govt. Rules.
*Eligibility of a candidate under OBC category will be considered based on the GO vide no 781(31)-Edn(U)/HED-12016(99)/29/2026-UNV SEC- Dept. of HE dated 11.06.2026.
