The National Law University Delhi, established in 2008 by Act No. 1 of 2008 of Delhi is a premier Law University in the capital city of India. The University invites online applications for admission to Undergraduate and Postgraduate for the Academic Year 2026-27.

B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)
  • All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis. The Foreign National and OCI/PIO candidates are also required to apply online on the same portal.
  • Candidate have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination thereto securing in the aggregate not less than 45% of the total marks (42% in case of OBC's and 40% for SC/ST/Person with Disability). The Eligibility condition for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination of (10+2) system or an equivalent examination.
  • Candidates appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility by such candidates shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date, which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result and in case such candidate is placed in compartment in the year of the admission, would be treated as ineligible.
  • The admission of foreign nationals shall be made based on satisfying the prescribed academic qualifications. The candidates who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold valid passport shall be eligible to apply under this category. They are exempted from taking the admission test. The other regulations regarding the eligibility for admission will be the same as applicable to the other candidates.

Conduct of All India Law Entrance Test - 2026
All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission to the UG/PG and Ph.D. Programmes at the National Law University, Delhi will be conducted on the Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 02:00 P.M. to 04:00 P.M.

Entrance Test (AILET) Scheme:
The syllabus of AILET 2026 for UG Programme is as follows:
  • The AILET 2026 for UG programme will have three (3) sections of 150 multiple choice questions for 150 marks in total. The duration of the examination is 120 minutes.
  • The three sections will be:
    Section A: English Language (50 questions; 50 marks).
    Section B: Current Affairs & General Knowledge (30 questions; 30 marks).
    Section C: Logical Reasoning (70 questions; 70 marks).
    Legal principles may be used in the logical reasoning section to test logical aptitude but the examination will not require any kind of legal knowledge or technical understanding.
  • Negative marking: There will be Negative Marking in AILET 2026. The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of 1 Mark.
  • If two or more candidates get the same marks at the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), their merit will be determined on the basis of higher marks in the section on LOGICAL REASONING in the AILET 2026.
  • If the merit is still same, then the candidate senior in age shall get preference. If still there is no change in merit, then computerized draw of lots shall be taken into consideration.

Foreign Nationals: The annual tuition fee shall be in Indian Rupees equivalent to USD 6,300 (Six Thousand Three Hundred Only) for candidates from SAARC countries and USD 12,600 (Twelve Thousand Six Hundred Only) for candidates from other countries. Other fee will be same as applicable to Indian students.

Hostel Accommodation:
It may be noted that due to availability of limited rooms in the Halls of residence, the National Law University, Delhi shall not be able to provide the Hostel facilities to all the newly admitted students of B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Programme. The Hostel allotment shall be done on the basis of aerial distance from the NLU Delhi and as per the reservation policy of the University. It may also be noted that ranks in entrance examination or marks in qualifying examinations is not a criteria to allocate the Hostel accommodation. Admission to any course will not create any right in favour of any Candidate qua Hostel allocation.
LL.M. (One Year) Programme
  • All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis. The Foreign National and OCI/PIO Candidates are also required to apply online on the same portal.
  • To be eligible to appear for admission to One year- LL.M. Programme, a candidate should have passed the LL.B or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability category).
  • Candidates appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility by such candidates, shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date, which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result, and in case such candidate is placed in compartment in year of the admission would be treated as ineligible.
  • The admission of foreign nationals shall be made based on satisfying the prescribed academic qualifications. The candidates who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold valid passport shall be eligible to apply under this category. They are exempted from taking the admission test.   • The admission for Foreign Nationals shall be made on the basis of: a) Academic record of LL.B. or equivalent degree recognized by the UGC/ Association of Indian Universities with not less than 55% marks or the equivalent grade. b) Assessment of necessary communication skills in written and spoken English and performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.
  • The candidates belonging to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) category may apply under the OCI/PIO category as well as under the category of Indian students separately (They have to submit the two different application forms i.e. one for India National and another for OCI/PIO category). In case the OCI/PIO candidates apply under the category of Indian National, they have to appear in the All Indian Law Entrance Test along with other Indian students.
  • The merit of the Foreign National and OCI/PIO Category will be drawn on the basis of percentage of marks in the qualifying exam.
  • The unfilled seats under Foreign National and OCI/PIO will be carried over to General Category and filled on AILET Merit.

Conduct of All India Entrance Test - 2026
All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission to the UG and PG Programmes at the National Law University, Delhi shall be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 02:00 P.M. to 04:00 P.M.

Entrance Test (AILET) Scheme:
The syllabus of AILET 2026 for LL.M. Programme is as follows:
  • The entrance tests for LL.M. Programme will be Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) based only.
  • The test paper will consist of 100 MCQs with each question carrying 1 mark.
  • All the 100 MCQs will be from the different branches of Law.
  • The duration of the examination will be 120 minutes.
  • Negative marking: There will be Negative Marking in AILET 2026. The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of one (1) mark.
  • If two or more candidates get the same marks at the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) their merit will be decided as follows:
    a) Senior Age;
    b) Computerized draw of lots

The University will conduct the All-India Entrance Test (AIET) for the following programmes on May 3, 2026:
  • Postgraduate Insolvency Programme (PGIP) – Master of Arts (MA) / Master of Laws (LL.M.) - Two Years
  • Joint Master's/LL.M. Programme in Intellectual Property (IP) Law and Management - One Year
  • Ph.D. Programme
The detailed admission notification for the AIET 2026 will be issued in January 2026. The online application forms for these programmes will be available on the website w.e.f. January 7, 2026.
PGIP - MA/LLM Degree in Insolvency
The University will conduct the All-India Entrance Test (AIET) for the following programmes on May 3, 2026:
  • Postgraduate Insolvency Programme (PGIP) – Master of Arts (MA) / Master of Laws (LL.M.) - Two Years
  • Joint Master's/LL.M. Programme in Intellectual Property (IP) Law and Management - One Year
  • Ph.D. Programme
