The objective of the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) is to assess the candidate’s aptitude for design involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, communication, and problem solving skills. CEED is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) under the guidance of the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee (UCIC). For the year 2027, the committee will be referred to as UCIC 2027. CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Master of Design (M.Des.) programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad), Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Jabalpur (IIITDM Jabalpur), Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram (IIITDM Kancheepuram) and Ph.D. programmes at several IITs and design schools.

Note: Any request for change in the Examination Date and Time will not be considered.

Examination

Examination Detail:
CEED 2027 examination will consist of two parts, Part-A and Part-B. Candidates must attempt questions from both the parts.

Part-A contains objective questions of three types: Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Choice Question (MCQ), and Multiple Select Question (MSQ). Answers to Part-A have to be given on the computer. These will be design aptitude type questions that evaluate visual and spatial ability, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, language, observation and design sensitivity of the candidates.

Part-B consists of five questions that are aimed at testing design, drawing and writing skills. The questions in Part-B will be displayed on the computer screen and the answers are to be written in the answer book provided by the invigilator.

The final score is calculated as follows.
Final score = 0.25 × Marks scored in Part-A + 0.75 × Marks scored in Part-B

PwD candidates can avail services of a scribe (amanuensis) for Part-A of the examination, but not for Part-B. See the information brochure for requisite forms and details.
Eligibility:
Candidates must have completed a graduate degree/ diploma/ postgraduate degree program having a minimum duration of THREE years (after class 10+2) or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2027, or must have passed the 5-year Government Diploma in Art (G. D. Art) (after class 10) by July 2027
Admit Card:
Admit Cards will be available for downloading from January 01, 2027 till the date of the examination. Please take a clear printout of the Admit Card before coming to the examination centre.

CEED 2027 will be held in the following cities:
Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh/Mohali, Coimbatore, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Goa, Guwahati, Hubballi (Hubli), Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Silchar, Solapur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Visakhapatnam.
Results:
CEED result will be declared on this website on March 03, 2027.
The CEED 2027 Score Card can be downloaded from March 10, 2027 from Candidate portal. It is valid for a period of one year from the date of declaration of the result. For more details, refer the Information Brochure. The CEED 2027 Score Card cannot be treated as a proof of date of birth, category or disability status.

Note that qualifying CEED does NOT guarantee admission to any programme. After qualifying, candidates must apply to the respective institutes for admission and fulfil other requirements, such as tests and/or interviews, of the respective institutes to become eligible for admission. The announcement for admission to the postgraduate programmes in design will be notified separately by these institutes. Candidates are advised to visit the websites of the respective institutes for information and application procedures for their programmes.

The UCEED-CEED Office, IIT Bombay, does not provide information about the criteria for postgraduate admission and award of scholarships/assistance at different institutes. This information may be obtained from the offices and websites of the respective institutes. For any specific queries on admission and programmes, the candidate should contact the head/convener/coordinator of the design programme at the concerned institute. Any queries in this matter to the UCEED-CEED Office, IIT Bombay, will NOT be entertained.

Eligibility

Candidates must have completed a graduate degree/diploma/postgraduate degree program having a minimum duration of THREE years (after class 10+2) or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2027, or must have passed the 5-year Government Diploma in Art (G. D. Art) (after class 10) by July 2027.

Note that the eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes may differ from the one necessary for appearing in CEED. Before applying for CEED, candidates must check whether they meet the required eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes.

There is no age limit to appear for CEED. Also, a candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.

Registration

CEED registration form must be submitted ONLINE ONLY through the official website, https://www.ceed.iitb.ac.in
Registration fee:
Rs. 2,000/- for all women candidates
Rs. 2,000/- for (SC/ST/PwD) candidates
Rs. 4,000/- for all other candidates

Note that this registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The registration fee has to be paid through the payment option provided on the website while submitting the registration form. The online registration portal gives detailed instructions for payment of registration fees. UPI, Credit card, debit card and net-banking options are available. The registration fee shown above does NOT include service and other charges and the processing fees that the banks may levy.

The normal registration fee shown above is applicable till the regular closing date of registration, i.e., October 31, 2026. A late fee of Rs. 500 /- applies to registrations of all the candidates submitted after the regular closing date. This provision is available till 05:00 P.M. on November 06, 2026. Please refer to the dates in section 1.2 of this brochure.
