Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D. programme in Education, Department of Education, University of Calcutta, 1, Reformatory Street, Kolkata - 27. The proforma for application is available on the University website www.caluniv.ac.in (also enclosed herewith at the end).
Application form duly filled in together with receipt of Rs. 100/- paid online through SBI Collect (Go to https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/). The payment receipt for miscellaneous fees-application for admission to Ph.D. is to be submitted to the Departmental office (3rd floor, Alipore campus) in hard copy from 08.9.2025 to 19.9.2025 between 1 pm to 3 pm.

Please note: The entire application, along with all supporting documents, must be submitted in an enclosed envelope to the Office of the Department of Education.
The admission process to the Ph.D. programme in Education 2025 will follow the University of Calcutta Rules & Regulations. Admission to the programme will be based on a Research Entrance Test (RET) followed by a personal Interview (viva).
Eligibility:
Eligible candidates must have Master's Degree in Education/M.Ed. with at least 55% marks in
aggregate or its equivalent grade B+ in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point
scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks, from 55% to 50% or
an equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently
abled candidates as per UGC guidelines. Those candidates who have already passed UGC/CSIR
(JRF) examinations, NET/SET/SLET/M.Phil. in Education need not appear at the written
examination and can directly apply to appear at the interview. Reservation policy will be
followed as per the University of Calcutta rules & regulations.
Procedure for RET:
A written test will be held for 50 marks with a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes in offline mode at the Department of Education, Alipore Campus, University of Calcutta. The question paper for the RET will be based on Research Methodology, Statistical Analysis (as per UGC-NET syllabus in Education), including academic & critical writing. The examination will be in English.
Qualifying marks for Entrance Test:
50% for the Unreserved Category (UR) and relaxation for the Reserved Categories as per government rules & regulations.
Interview (viva) of 50 marks:
All the candidates who qualify in the Entrance Test/RET and the candidates who are exempted from the Entrance Test will have to appear for an Interview, subject to equivalence clearance from the Registrar's office, wherever required.
The equivalence clearance may be obtained from the Office of the Registrar, University of
Calcutta, College Street campus, before the submission of the application form. The final
selection for joining this programme and the allocation of the supervisors will be made on the
basis of the final Interview.
Publication of the final list of candidates qualified for enrolment in the Ph.D. programme will be
displayed at the Departmental notice board and the University website as and when approval is
received.
Appearing for the Interview does not guarantee admission to the Ph.D. programme and Ph.D.
registration.
All in-service applicants need to attach "No Objection Certificate" from the employer at the
time of submission of the application.
The original documents of the candidate will be verified on the day of the Interview and also after the publication of results.
