Notification for Ph.D admission for the Session August- September, 2026
Online applications from eligible candidates are invited for admission to Ph.D programme of University of Jammu for the Session: August-September, 2026 as per vacancies shown against each Department/Discipline in Annexure I.

The candidates are required to peruse detailed information regarding the availability of seats along with specialization (if any) and the categories.
Admissions shall be made strictly in order of merit as per the guidelines laid down in the Statutes governing the whole-time/part-time Ph.D programme of University of Jammu as shall be applicable from time to time. Submission of NOC from the concerned Competent Authority, authorized to issue NOC in case of part-time aspirants is mandatory for seeking admissions.

The application fee of Rs. 300/-(non-refundable) shall be required to be deposited online through payment gateway available on University Website.
(A) ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D PROGRAMME
Candidates fulfilling both the eligibility criteria as mentioned in Point I & II below shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D Programme:
I.
The candidates with UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR-NET (including JRF)/GATE/ CEED and similar National level tests.
OR
The candidates with SET/SLET.
OR
Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other
statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of
educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation
of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories
of candidates as notified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and UT of J&K from
time to time.
II.
Candidates who have completed a 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after
a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s
degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications
declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory/regulatory
body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale
wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign
educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is
approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under
a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess,
accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to
SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and
other categories of candidates as notified by the UGC and UT of J&K from time to time.
Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree
programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a
point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its
equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy
layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of
candidates as notified by the UGC and UT of J&K from time to time (For such candidates,
the University of Jammu shall follow NEP 2020/UGC guidelines issued from time to
time).
OR
The candidates with SET/SLET.
OR
Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other
statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of
educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation
of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories
of candidates as notified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and UT of J&K from
time to time.
B. IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS/INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES

Candidates are advised to keep the following documents ready before starting to fill the Online application form:

All support documents, certificates required for admissions as applicable, such as
marks sheets, degrees of qualifying examinations, NOC(for part-time aspirants),
M.Phil/NET/SLET/GATE/CEED result documents, valid category certificate
(if applicable) etc.

The University will not be responsible for any mistake/lapse on the part of the candidate
while filling up the Online Application Form and uploading of the required certificates.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to provide and ensure factually correct information
while filling up the Online Application Form. Any detection of incorrect information on
part of the candidate shall lead to rejection of the said application form at any stage of
admission process.

Notes

Hard copy of Application form duly signed by the candidate alongwith selfattested copies of supporting documents must be submitted to the concerned
department within three working days of filling up the Online Application Form.
