Admission Notification for Post Graduate Programmes for the Academic Session 2026-2028

Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission in Post Graduate Programmes in different subjects of Harichand Guruchand University, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal for the Academic Session 2026-2028.

Who Can Apply:

1. The candidates appearing in UG 6^th semester (single major), 2026 (under NEP) may apply, provided that they have cleared all semester examinations up to 5^th semester with valid eligibility at the time of application.

2. The candidates already passed 3-year UG programme under CBCS (Hons) / 3-year graduate, as applicable, having valid eligibility may also apply.

Programmes and Eligibility Criteria for Online Admission 2026-2028

Only students who have passed the qualifying examination in the year 2024, 2025 and 2026 are eligible to apply for admission to the Post-Graduate programmes of Bengali, Education and History for the academic session 2026-28. There is no bar on Year of passing the qualifying examination for Journalism and Mass Communication.

General Information

Online Admission process will be done strictly based on MERIT.
The reservation of seats in favour of the reserved categories shall be as per the rules and regulations of the Government West Bengal.

All Merit Lists shall be provisional. If any discrepancy is found (regarding marks/candidate's details) at the time of document verification or at any stage in the future, then his/her candidature may be cancelled accordingly.
The unintentional mistake of the university authority, if any, will be corrected immediately after its identification.
The final semester Marksheet should be produced at the time of Verification. In case an applicant cannot produce the final semester marksheet at the time of verification, the applicant’s candidature will be liable to be cancelled.

Application Procedure

The applicants will have to fill in the Application Form only through online portal ( www.harichandguruchanduniversity.ac.in). The applicants have to:

Register themselves in the portal by providing required information to be sought;
Fill in the form with the personal details, academic details;
Upload the scanned copy(s) of all the marksheets & certificates, photo and signature;
Select the eligible Programmes/Courses of study.

The selection will be made strictly on the basis of merit which will be calculated as per rules, described later in this notification.

The eligible applicants, who have completed the qualifying degree, will have to fill in the application form with their SGPA in each semester separately in case of semester system.

The eligible applicants who are appearing in the final semester of the qualifying degree or awaiting their final semester results, will have to fill in the application form with their SGPA in each semester separately up to the last semester passed.

In case of annual system, the percentage (%) of marks (aggregate of Part-I, II & III) has to be filled in.

All the applicants will have to produce all the original marksheets, certificates and identity proof at the time of verification.

Merit Calculation for Admission Process

1. Merit Calculation Rules and Selection Process for Admission

1.1 The selection will be made strictly on the basis of merit which will be calculated as follows:

The merit lists will be prepared on the basis of 50% weightage to marks obtained in the Post Graduate Entrance Test of Harichand Guruchand University (PGETHGU) and 50% weightage given to marks obtained in the qualifying examinations.

For Semester System:

Merit of PGETHGU = 50% of the Marks obtained in PGETHGU conducted by Harichand Guruchand University

Merit of academic = 50% of Average SGPA × 10, where Average SGPA = (Total of all SGPA obtained in the qualifying degree) / No. of Semesters completed.

Total Merit = Merit of PGETHGU + Merit of academic

For Annual System:

Merit of PGETHGU = 50% of Marks obtained in PGETHGU conducted by Harichand Guruchand University

Merit of academic = 50% of Aggregate % of Marks (Part-I, II, III) of the qualifying degree

Total Merit = Merit of PGETHGU + Merit of academic

1.2 Selection Process:

As mentioned earlier, the selection will be made strictly on the basis of merit to be calculated as mentioned above.

In case of a tie in Total Merit, for breaking the tie the following rules will be applied:

Merit of PGETHGU will be considered first for ranking.
If the tie remains, then percentage of correctness in the PGETHGU will be considered.
For further tie breaking (if required), the marks of qualifying degree examinations will be considered.

Category-wise Break-up of the seats for P.G. Admission

Category-wise Break-up of the seats for P.G. Admission shall be made as per the rules and regulations of the Government West Bengal.
In case of non-availability of PWD candidates, the seats reserved for PWD candidates of the particular category will be converted to that Category Only.

Other Information

Before applying through online mode, candidates are hereby advised to go through the fees structure, available in the website.
The University may issue a re-advertisement if seats remain vacant, and eligible candidates may be considered for admission in order of academic merit, in compliance with the reservation policy of Government of West Bengal.
Candidates are advised to visit the University website regularly for important dates and updated information.
The University shall not be liable if any candidate fails to comply with the admission schedule and instructions notified by the University from time to time.
