Admission to Ph.D. Programme in Physics for academic year 2026-2027
Applications are invited from candidates meeting the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to PhD programme in the Department of Physics at RKMVERI’s Belur Math Main Campus for the academic-session 2026-2027.
This is a rolling advertisement. Eligible candidates may apply any time of the year. Their applications will be grouped together and considered twice or thrice in an academic year. Shortlisted applicants will be called for Research Eligibility Test (RET), written and/or viva-voce (oral) as per UGC Regulations as described in detail at the end of the Chart enclosed.

Research Eligibility Test: All the candidates must appear at a Research Eligibility Test comprising written test as well as a rigorous viva-voce (oral) exam., except those with NET, SLET, SET, and/or JRF qualifications who will be exempted from a written test, but must face a rigorous viva-voce (oral) exam.

Pay Application Fee: Submit the INR 500 application fee online. (The fee is non-refundable.)

Upload Documents: Upload necessary documents (photo, mark sheets, certificates etc.).

Last date of submission: Complete the application and pay the fees by the last date. Incomplete or unpaid applications may be rejected after the last date.

Receipt/Application Summary: Download the receipt/application summary from the “Dashboard” after successful submission and payment.

Admission test (RET), both written and viva-voce will be held on: 5 October, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. at the Belur Math Main Campus of RKMVERI.
Research Scholarship / Fellowship:
Eligible selected candidates can apply for various fellowship opportunities offered by DST/CSIR.UGC, Fellowship for Single Girl Child (UGC), and other external fellowships. While PhD applicants with any of these or any other Fellowship will get preference, those without any fellowship will also be entertained provided that they qualify and get selected. The Institute, RKMVERI, will facilitate their receiving the Swami Vivekananda non-NET Fellowship of Rs. 8,000/- per month awarded by the West Bengal State Govt., provided that the State Govt. finds their eligible otherwise. In addition to this, the Institute RKMVERI will pay an additional amount of Rs. 7,000/- adding up to Rs. 15,000/- (Indian Rupees fifteen thousand only) per month in all, subject to consistent academic performance as evidenced by publications in standard journals, research motivation, character and conduct for 3 years initially. The question of continuance beyond this period will depend upon the factors mentioned above. In case the WB State Govt., is unwilling and/or unable to provide the Swami Vivekananda Fellowship, the Institute RKMVERI will pay a fellowship of Rs. 7,000/- per month as stated above. The Institute, RKMVERI, reserves the right of periodic evaluation of the performance along the above parameters and decide on the continuance during the period of research of the scholar concerned. Be it understood that no scholar can claim this Institute Fellowship as a matter of right.
Admission and Course Fees:
Admission process shall begin immediately after the announcement of results. The selected candidates willing to take admission may get admitted by paying the requisite fees and submitting the requisite documents.
