Advertisement for admission to Ph. D. Programme in Pure Mathematics, 2024 –2025.

Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. programme in Pure Mathematics, C.U. (preferably in the areas Complex Analysis, Measure Theory, Functional Analysis, Rings of Continuous Functions and Differential Geometry).

Candidates desirous of enrolling in the said Ph.D. programme are to apply online in the prescribed form (https://forms.gle/Je3dJtH51PHuiXKRA) after paying the prescribed application fee of Rs. 100/- (online) through SBI Collect [https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/]*.

Those who have already obtained M.Sc. Final Semester results can only apply. The details about the proposed admission test [RET] (written- MCQ type questions with single/multiple correct answers) and subsequent interview of the candidates are given below. The candidates who have cleared UGC / CSIR(JRF/LS) / NET / SET / SLET / valid GATE / NBHM for JRF / Inspire Fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M. Phil examination are not required to take the Ph.D. entrance test (RET); however, they’ve to appear for the interview.

(a) Date and venue of written test for Ph.D. Entrance Examination (RET) – 18.07.2024 (12:00 noon. - 2:00 p.m.) , Department of Pure Mathematics, University of Calcutta; 35, Ballygunge Circular Road; Kolkata – 700 019.

On the day of his/her written test (RET), a candidate must submit the filled-in application form (i.e., the hard copy of the uploaded form) along with photocopies of all the testimonials.

(b) Date and venue of Interview for the qualified candidates: From 6th August, 2024 to 9th August, 2024 , Department of Pure Mathematics, University of Calcutta; 35, Ballygunge Circular Road; Kolkata – 700 019.

On the day of his/her interview, a candidate must submit the filled-in application form (i.e., the hard copy of the uploaded form) along with photocopies of all the testimonials. Candidates are also requested to bring all the original testimonials for verification, on the day of his/her interview.

(c) Maximum Number of seats available for the Ph.D. Programme – 9

(d) Syllabus – Topics covered in B.Sc.(Hons.) and M.Sc. courses in Pure Mathematics (excluding topics in elective papers)
