Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. Programme in Urdu, in the Department of Urdu, University of Calcutta.

Candidates having Master’s degree in Urdu with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7- point scale (relaxation will be given as per norms) are eligible to apply. Admission to the Ph.D. programme will be done through a Research Eligibility Test (RET) followed by an interview. However candidates exempted from the RET are required to appear for the interview only. The entire admission process and all other matters related to the Ph.D. Programme in the Department of Urdu will be governed by the University of Calcutta (Regulation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D.), Regulations 2016 and/or the time to time changes made by the concerned authority on the same.

• At most 09 candidates may be accommodated, if found suitable [with full concurrence with the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in admission) Act, 2013].

  For making the payment go to the site specified above, then choose State- (West Bengal), Type- (Educational Institution), then select Calcutta University and proceed to Category- (Payment for Misc Fees), choose Application for Admission to Ph.D. and proceed to the next step.
  
  Submit the application along with supporting documents and S.B.I payment receipt at the Department of Urdu, 1st Floor (Asutosh Building, College Street Campus) 87/1, College Street, Kolkata –700073 on all working days (Monday to Friday) between 12 Noon to 4 PM.
• Research Eligibility Test (RET) (written part) of 70 marks will be held on June 28, 2024 (2.30 pm – 5 pm) in the Department of Urdu, 1st Floor (Asutosh Building, College Street Campus) 87/1, College Street, Kolkata –700073. The RET will be of three Hours duration. Five Questions carrying 02 marks each (2x5=10) and Four Questions carrying 15 marks each (15x4 = 60) will have to be answered. Candidates must obtain qualifying marks—50% (relaxation will be given as per norms)

• Candidates who have already qualified NET/ SET/ M.Phil. Examination can directly appear in the Interview skipping the RET (written Part).
• The list of candidates qualifying for the Interview will be displayed on the Departmental Notice Board on July 04, 2024.
• Interview of 30 marks will be held on July 10, 2024 (12 noon onwards) in the Department of Urdu, 1st Floor (Asutosh Building, College Street Campus) 87/1, College Street, Kolkata – 700073
• The List of the selected candidate will be published on the Departmental Notice Board after approval of the appropriate authority.
• All candidates must submit 2 passport size photographs along with the application.
