Ph.D. Enrollment (2025), Department of Applied Optics & Photonics

The Department of Applied Optics and Photonics will be admitting a maximum of four (4) students to the Ph.D. program of the Department, subject to the suitability of the applicants. Candidates with M.Tech. (Optics and Optoelectronics/ Electronics & Telecommunication/Electronics & Instrumentation/Biomedical Instrumentation/Astronomical Instrumentation or equivalent), M.Sc.(Tech.) in Optics and Optoelectronics, B.Tech. in the relevant field with at least 5 years of R&D experience and M.Sc. (in Physics/Electronics/Biomedical Instrumentation or equivalent), may apply. The admission process will be in accordance with the Ph.D. regulations of the University. The policy of reservation will apply in accordance with the power conferred by sub-section (1) of section 8 of the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutes (Reservation in Admission) Act 2013 (west Ben Act X of 2013).

Students who have cleared UGC/CSIR JRF Examinations/NET/SET/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil./M.Tech./M.E. or equivalent examinations shall not be required to appear for the Ph.D entrance written test.

The written examination will be MCQ type. Syllabus for written examination: Graduate level optical physics, Optics & Optoelectronics, Instrumentation, Electronics and Mathematics.
Willing candidates should apply in the prescribed proforma available in the CU website https://www.caluniv.ac.in/admission/CU_RET_Form.pdf along with a detailed CV and fees receipt of Rs. 100/- paid through SBI Collect. All documents are to be submitted to the departmental HOD's office.

The selected candidates will be informed after getting approval from competent university authority.
