India’s higher education regulator has raised concerns about unrecognised institutions misleading students. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified a Rajasthan-based institute as illegitimate and not permitted to grant degrees. Students are advised to verify credentials before taking admission.
The UGC has listed the Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, located in Bhiwadi, Alwar district, as a fake institution. According to the Commission, it does not qualify as a recognised university under the UGC Act, 1956.
The institute is not authorised to award degrees, and any qualifications issued by it are not valid for employment, higher studies, or government purposes.
The UGC has urged students and parents to remain cautious and avoid enrolling in such self-declared institutions. Taking admission in unrecognised institutes can negatively impact academic and career prospects.
This is not the first time the institute has been flagged. It had already appeared in a previous UGC notice earlier in 2026. The latest update reinforces the earlier warning.
The UGC has also released a list of fake institutions across various states, including:
The Commission has emphasised that degrees from such institutions are invalid and will not be accepted for jobs, higher education, or any official purposes.
Authorities are taking strict action against such institutions, including legal proceedings, issuing notices, and enforcement measures.
Students are strongly encouraged to verify the authenticity of institutions through official UGC sources before applying to avoid fraudulent schemes.
