A fully residential, 4-year-long, transdisciplinary Bachelor of Design (Honours) programme

• Physical Product Design
  Design physical products of various scales and complexities.
  Bring everyday objects, accessories, furniture, lighting, and consumer electronics to life. Key areas of focus in this specialisation would be product aesthetics, branding, and the ability to create and test physical mock-ups and digital models.
  You will also learn to evaluate feasibility, production processes, and the technological framework that goes into your design.
• Digital product Design (UX/UI)
  Design digital products like the UX/UI of websites, mobile apps, or an interactive installation.
  This specialisation focuses on designing the aesthetic and behavioural qualities of digital touchpoints and interfaces.
  Via a simulated design process, you will design digital assets, create working prototypes, and implement and test the designed solutions.
• Design Research & Insights
  Focus on deep research and analysis from a design perspective. Engaging with end-users and other stakeholders to solve problems and uncover opportunities.​ Make informed decisions based on insights and opportunities identified through a combination of primary and secondary research methods.
  Work with government, consulting firms, think tanks, social impact organisations, and NGOs on projects with impact at scale.
  On this pathway, you will acquire the skills and competencies to understand people and their life context from a socio-cultural perspective.
• Experience Design
  Design meaningful and engaging interactions for users with products, processes, services, events, or environments.
  With this specialisation, you will learn to consider entire customer journeys, including interactions with customer service, sales, marketing, onboarding, and offboarding.
  Some areas of application for this field of study include retail service experiences and showrooms, event spaces and trade shows, as well as a wide range of public services typical of a smart city, such as entertainment and hospitality, mobility, and healthcare.
• Visual Design
  Design visual identities for brands and companies across assets like print media, 3D visualisations, videos, and animations.
  This specialisation involves using aesthetic elements like images, colours, and symbols to enhance user experience and convey an intended message.
  The range of application of visual design competencies is broad and includes defining brand qualities, development of layouts and visual assets for digital products (web, app etc.), creation of infographics, and visualisation of data.

In this 4-year programme, students are gradually exposed to a specialisation of choice. Each year, students engage in distinct groups of courses that impart fundamental knowledge, encourage personal development, ignite investigative curiosity, foster learning specific to a specialisation, and enhance mastery of essential tools and skills.

Courses encompass the study of material studies, social media communication, visualisation and prototyping, AI for design, and designing for the senses. Along the way, students also undertake an industrial project, a community project, masterclasses, and internships.

Application fee: Rs. 2,500/-

• There will be only one round of applications.
• Only applicants who submit their applications by Feb 1, 2026 will be able to upload the BITSDAT / UCEED / NID DAT Prelims Scores when the portal is opened.
• Fresh applications will not be accepted during the score upload window.

Qualifications

• 10+2 or equivalent in any stream from any recognised board of education with minimum 45% (appearing or passed).
• Applicants should have taken at least one of these tests:
  • National Institute of Design - Design Aptitude Test (NID-DAT) Prelims
  • IIT Bombay Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED)
  • BITS Design Aptitude Test (BITSDAT)
    BITSDAT: BITS Design School will conduct the BITS Design Aptitude Test for students from different backgrounds who might not have appeared for other design entrance tests. The BITSDAT is a 1-hour test designed to check the design concept aptitude, logical reasoning ability, non-verbal reasoning and English language skills of candidates seeking admission to the B Des (Honours) programme. The test will be conducted online.

Interview Focus
We believe in nurturing the next generation of design innovators who bring passion, creativity, and a commitment to excellence. During the portfolio interview, we identify applicants who possess the following qualities:

• You are fully committed to a career in design.
• You are creatively inclined and have a sense of aesthetics.
• You have an aptitude for design and problem solving.
• You communicate clearly through verbal and all other media.

Fees

• A one-time Admission Fee of Rs. 40,000/- and Security Deposit of Rs. 20,000/- will be payable at the time of accepting the admission offer.
• The residence fee includes housing, meals, and access to sports facilities.
• These fees are subject to an annual increase of up to 8%.

• The cost of books and other learning materials will be additional and borne by the student.
