The Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, has started the online admission process for students applying under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Disadvantaged Group (DG), and Children With Special Needs (CWSN) categories for the 2026–27 academic session. Parents can submit applications through the official portal until March 16.
The admission drive is being conducted under the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. As per the law, all recognised private unaided schools-except minority institutions-must reserve 25 percent of entry-level seats for children belonging to EWS, DG, and CWSN categories. These seats are primarily intended for students residing in nearby areas.
Admissions will be carried out through a fully digital system to maintain transparency. Seat allotment will be finalised through a computerised draw of lots. The date for the first draw will be announced separately by the department.
Families with an annual income of up to ₹5 lakh are eligible under the EWS category. The DG category includes children from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to the non-creamy layer. It also covers orphans, transgender children, and those living with or affected by HIV. Income certificates are not required for DG applicants.
Age relaxation will be provided for children with special needs according to existing government norms.
Officials have stated that the online system is designed to make the process more accessible and transparent, while reducing the need for parents to visit schools or government offices during admissions.
Parents are advised to check the official Directorate of Education website for detailed guidelines, eligibility norms, and updates regarding the admission schedule.
