The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to implement a biannual system for Class 10 board exams starting in 2026. According to Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, it will be compulsory for students to take the first set of exams, while the second set will be optional.
The first phase of exams is scheduled for February, with results expected in April. The second phase will be held in May, and those results will be announced in June. Students will have the opportunity to improve their scores in up to three subjects, including science, mathematics, social science, and languages.
For schools in regions with harsh winters, students will have the flexibility to choose either phase for their exams. The board clarified that internal assessments will be conducted only once.
This change aligns with recommendations from the National Education Policy (NEP), which suggests reducing the pressure of single high-stakes exams by giving students the chance to appear twice in an academic year.
