Schools have started collecting the names of students who wish to appear for the May re-test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This initiative aims to help students improve their academic performance.
Following the announcement of the first exam results on Wednesday, parents were contacted on Thursday to confirm their children's participation in the second exam. Schools must submit the final list of candidates to CBSE by April 20.
The newly introduced second exam allows students to retake up to three subjects from the initial test, which concluded on March 30.
Several schools, including South Point High School, Delhi Public School Ruby Park, The Newtown School, BDM International, Shri Shikshayatan School, and Sushila Birla Girls’ School, have issued notices or forms to determine student interest. Most institutions have set deadlines over the weekend for responses.
Parents have been requested to respond promptly so schools can complete administrative procedures and finalize submissions. Students opting for the re-test will need to pay an examination fee through their respective schools.
Preliminary lists were prepared before the results were declared, but these may be revised as students reconsider their choices or change subjects. CBSE permits flexibility in subject selection for the re-test.
The policy allows improvement in up to three subjects across science, mathematics, social science, and languages. The second exam is scheduled for May.
School authorities noted that results were announced earlier than usual this year to accommodate the revised examination system. Many principals expect only a limited number of students to opt for the re-test, given the generally strong performance in the first exam.
Only students who have successfully passed the first exam are eligible to apply for the second attempt.
