Students pursuing four-year undergraduate programmes in Arts and Science at Jadavpur University will now have the flexibility to conclude their studies after completing three years, in accordance with the framework outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Those who choose this pathway will receive a bachelor's degree without honours. The provision has been formalized through a university notification that outlines the eligibility requirements and procedural details for students opting for an early exit.
The university adopted the four-year undergraduate structure in 2023, aligning with reforms introduced across several state universities. The first batch enrolled under this system is currently appearing for its sixth-semester examinations.
To be eligible for the degree through the exit route, students must successfully complete all academic requirements from the first to the sixth semester, accumulate at least 120 credits, and fulfill the compulsory internship component, which ranges from 60 to 120 hours and carries two to four credits.
Students who have pending papers in their fifth or sixth semester examinations may clear those subjects through supplementary examinations before applying for the exit option.
University guidelines specify that applications for the third-year exit can be submitted after the publication of sixth-semester results. Relevant deadlines have been established prior to the start of the seventh semester and, where applicable, before supplementary examinations for students with backlogs.
