Eligibility Criteria for appearing for the Exam:
A candidate, including a foreign national, must simultaneously fulfil every one of the following three criteria to appear in UCEED 2026.
Criterion 1 β Age limit:
The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 2001, if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category and born on or after October 1, 1996, if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.
Criterion 2 β Number of attempts:
A candidate can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times, and that too in consecutive years. Note that the UCEED score is valid for one year and only for admissions in the same corresponding academic year.
Criterion 3 β Qualifying examination:
A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 OR 2026 to be eligible for attempting UCEED 2026. Students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible.
Those who appeared for the first time in their qualifying examination (Class XII) in 2024* or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in UCEED 2026.
* By appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination, it is meant that the Board concerned declared the result for that year irrespective of whether or not examination was conducted. It will be considered as an appearance even if the result of a particular candidate got withheld.
However, if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2023-24 on or after September 30, 2024, then the candidates of that Board who appeared for their Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2024 are also eligible to appear in UCEED 2026, provided they meet all the other eligibility criteria. In case the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2023-24 before September 30, 2024 but the result of a particular candidate was withheld for whatever reason, then the candidate will not be eligible to appear in UCEED 2026.
Qualifying Examination:
Final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (www.aiu.ac.in).
Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects
Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
H.S.C. vocational examination.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination.
In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have already passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination before appearing for UCEED.
A Diploma recognized by the All-India Council for Technical Education (www.aicte-india.org) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least THREE years duration. It is important to note that the eligibility criteria of the participating Institutes may not consider candidates with a Diploma of three-year duration.
Note: These are the eligibility criteria for appearing in UCEED 2026. To know about the eligibility criteria for applying for BDes admission, visit this page: Eligibility for Admission.
UCEED 2026 will be held in the following 27 cities in India only:
Candidates should compulsorily opt for THREE cities of their choice, in the order of preference, at the time of online registration. Once the registration is complete, a request for a city change will NOT be entertained.
Suppose a sufficient number of candidates are not available in a listed city, such a city may be dropped from the final list, and those candidates will be allotted a centre in the city of either their second or third preference. Additionally, because of operational contingencies, the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee(UCIC) reserves the right to add a new city/town or remove an existing one and allot a city/town that may not be among the preferences stated by a candidate.
Candidates must make their own arrangements for appearing at the allotted centre.
Note: A request for a change of examination centre will NOT be entertained after the registration is complete.
UCEED 2026 will have two parts.
Part-A will have questions from the following topics:
Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.
Observation and design sensitivity: The capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically about them. Attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction.

Part-B will have questions on the following topics:
Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading.
Design aptitude: Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy.
Note: The topics listed above are exhaustive and indicative of the nature of the questions. However, the UCEED 2026 may not cover all the topics.
There will be ONE question paper of total THREE hours duration.
The question paper will be in English only.
The question paper will carry a total of 300 marks.
The question paper will consist of two parts: Part-A and Part-B. It is compulsory to attempt questions from both parts.
Utmost care is taken to prepare an error free question paper. However, if an error is detected in the question paper, the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee(UCIC) shall take an appropriate decision after the examination, which shall be final.
Details of the two parts of the question paper are given below:
Part-A (Total marks: 200; Maximum time: 2 hours)
- This part will be administered through a computer-based test.
- This part will consist of three sections.
Section 1: NAT (Numerical Answer Type): 14 questions (4 marks each; no negative marks).
For these questions, the answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard on the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions.
Section 2: MSQ (Multiple Select Question): 15 questions.
Each MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given. The following is the marking scheme: - Full Marks: + 4 If only (all) the correct option(s) is(are) chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen. - Partial Marks: + 3 If all the four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen. - Partial Marks: + 2 If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen, both of which are correct and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen. - Partial Marks: + 1 If two or more options are correct but ONLY one option is chosen and it is a correct option and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen. - Zero Marks: 0 If none of the options is chosen (i.e., the question is unanswered). - Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases.
Section 3: MCQ (Multiple Choice Question): 28 questions (3 marks each for the correct answer; 0.71 negative marks for incorrect answers). Each MCQ will have four choices, out of which only one is the correct answer.
Part-B (Total marks: 100; Maximum time: 1 hour)
Part-B consists of TWO questions to test the candidatesβ drawing skills and design aptitude. This will require subjective evaluation. The questions in Part-B will be displayed on the computer screen, and the answer must be written/drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator. In the case of PwD candidates availing the use of a scribe, assistance in attempting Part-B is not permitted, as the question is aimed at evaluating their drawing skill.
Part-B answer booklets will be collected at the end of the examination.
Part-B question is mandatory.
The entire paper (Part-A and Part-B) must be finished within the stipulated time for each part.

The following rules will govern the joint seat allotment:
If the selected candidates DO NOT remit the seat acceptance fee before the deadline or DECLINE the admission, their application will stand CANCELLED.
- They will NOT be considered for the subsequent round of seat allotment.
- These vacant seats will be offered to other eligible candidates to be filled up during the subsequent rounds (if any) of seat allotment.
If applicants are allotted their FIRST choice of institute, they can either ACCEPT (βfreezeβ) the offer or DECLINE it. If they choose to DECLINE the offer, they will NOT be considered for subsequent rounds, and their current seat allocation shall be CANCELLED. This seat will be filled during the subsequent rounds (if any) of allotment.
Suppose applicants are allotted their SECOND/THIRD/FOURTH/FIFTH choice of institute. In that case, they can opt to either ACCEPT ('freeze') the choice or ACCEPT WITH THE OPTION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR UPWARD MOVEMENT ('float') choice for subsequent rounds (if any) of the joint seat allocation.
-If the candidates choose the 'freeze' option, it means they have ACCEPTED the offer and do not wish to participate in further rounds of seat allocation. Such candidates will NOT be considered in subsequent round(s) of seat allocation.
- If the candidates choose 'float' option, it means they have ACCEPTED the offer and have indicated that, if admission to an institute of their higher preference is offered, they will accept it. Else, they will continue with the currently ac-cepted institute. Such candidates will be considered in subsequent round(s) of seat allocation.
- For candidates who choose the 'float' option, allocation of a seat in an institute of their higher preference in a subsequent round would AUTOMATICALLY result in the forfeiture of the seat accepted by them in the earlier round.
In cases of ACCEPT/FLOAT/FREEZE, the candidates must pay the complete amount of the seat acceptance fee mentioned in the provisional seat allotment letter. Failure to make the payment will result in the cancellation of their allotted seat, and they will not be considered in any further rounds (if any) of seat allocation.
Candidates offered seats have to remit the seat acceptance fee only ONCE. Thus, candidates allotted another seat (because they chose the βfloatβ option) need not pay the seat acceptance fee again. Candidates must exercise extreme caution and avoid getting tricked by fraudsters contacting them regarding rank allotment and admissions. Please follow information provided on the UCEED website (www.uceed.iitb.ac.in) only.
For candidates who accept the offered seat, the seat acceptance fee will be adjusted against the institute fees of the admitting institute at the time of joining. For candidates who decline the offered seat after remitting the seat acceptance fee, the refund of the seat acceptance fee will be governed by the policies of the admitting institute.
To avoid any last-minute unforeseen transaction issues, candidates are advised to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee for a round well before the end time/date of the corresponding round.
All candidates, who will pay the Seat Acceptance Fee in rounds I and II, can withdraw till the round-II withdrawal end date for claiming the refund. Withdrawals can be done only during the prescribed withdrawal schedules.
