After more than a month since the release of the Higher Secondary examination results, students in West Bengal have been eagerly waiting to begin the undergraduate admission process. According to sources from Bikash Bhavan, the state’s centralized admission portal is scheduled to open on June 17. From 4 PM that day, students will be able to submit applications for admission to the first semester of undergraduate programs. An official notification from the Higher Education Department is expected shortly.
On Wednesday, State Education Minister Bratya Basu announced that the portal would be launched soon, following approval from the Chief Minister. He had also indicated that the portal would be operational within the current week, aligning with the upcoming notification.
The results of the Higher Secondary exams were declared on May 7, along with the results from other national and state boards around the same time. The unified admission portal was first introduced last year by the Higher Education Department to streamline undergraduate admissions.
This year, the admission process was delayed due to an ongoing legal matter concerning OBC reservation. The Higher Education Department had cited this as the reason for the hold-up. However, after the state government clarified its stance on the matter during a recent legislative session, the procedural hurdles were resolved, paving the way for the admission schedule to be finalized.
Launched in 2023, the Centralized Admission Portal facilitates undergraduate admissions across 16 universities and 461 government and government-aided colleges in West Bengal. Students who have passed Class 12 from any recognized board or equivalent authority in India are eligible to apply. They can choose from a wide range of 7,217 courses offered by these institutions.
