A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

For Full-Time Category:

• The candidate should not be working anywhere during the minimum period of research and should be in a position to attend Ph.D. Program in Viswa Mahavidyalaya with regular attendance. Employed candidates who are sponsored by their employers for the tenure of research shall also be eligible to apply for admission into Ph.D. on full time Basis.
• Research fellows / Research assistants / Technical assistants / Project assistants / Training officers or equivalent in any existing department of the Viswa Mahavidyalaya, are als o eligible to apply for admission into Ph.D. on full time basis in the same department provided they satisfy other eligibility criteria.
• Candidates who possess a PG Degree in a discipline other than Sanskrit and who fulfill the other requirements can apply for admission into Ph.D. in Sanskrit provided that their proposed research problem is connected or interrelated with Sanskrit and that they have sufficient knowledge of Sanskrit to the satisfaction of Viswa Mahavidyalaya.

For Part-Time (Internal) Category:

• The candidate should be a regular staff member of Viswa Mahavidyalaya during the tenure of research, with minimum two years of relevant teaching / research / professional / industrial experience in recognized Institutions after having obtained PG.
• In service candidates of Viswa Mahavidyalaya, who possess a PG Degree in a discipline other than Sanskrit and who fulfill the other requirements can apply for admission into Ph.D. in Sanskrit provided their proposed research problem is connected or interrelated with Sanskrit and they have sufficient knowledge of Sanskrit to the satisfaction of Viswa Mahavidyalaya.

For Part-Time (External) Category:

• The candidate should be a regular staff member of a recognized Institution with minimum two years of relevant teaching / research / professional / industrial experience in recognized Institutions in India or abroad after having obtained PG.
• External candidates, who possess a PG Degree in a discipline other than Sanskrit and who fulfill the other requirements, can apply for admission into Ph.D. in Sanskrit provided their proposed research problem is connected or interrelated with Sanskrit and they have sufficient knowledge of Sanskrit to the satisfaction of Viswa Mahavidyalaya.

• The candidate should apply for Ph.D. admission along with necessary required testimonials - through online portal
  (The submitted applications along with application fee will be considered for scrutiny).
• The applications which meet the required eligibility will be considered for further process (initial screening).
• The screened applications will be verified at the department level for its eligibility, research topic relevance and other required details (any application without research proposal will not be considered for scrutiny) - Research proposal format may be verified from the given format in the web-page.
• The selected applications at the department level will be intimated for entrance test and personal interview (the entrance will be conducted in the campus of university, the intimation will be given to selected applicants well in advance). The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of 50% of research methodology (Syllabus: UGC – NET/UGC – CSIR/GATE/NCISM) and 50 % shall be broad area of research.
• A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• Candidates with UGC JRF / NET / SLET / SET / GATE / CSIR / ICHR / ICPR / ICSSR qualified candidates and teacher fellowship holders are exempted from the Entrance test but they have to appear for the interview.
• The selected candidates will be informed for paying their prescribed fee within 15 days for confirming their Ph.D. provisional selection. (After paying the prescribed admission fee, the Ph.D. provisional selection will be confirmed and further order will be issued).
