The Bihar Education Department has initiated disciplinary action against 3,035 government school teachers after an investigation uncovered the alleged use of forged educational documents and fake academic qualifications during recruitment. The move is part of a wider effort to address irregularities in teacher appointments made between 2006 and 2015.
A comprehensive inquiry conducted by the Bihar Vigilance Bureau examined recruitment records spanning nearly a decade. The investigation reportedly uncovered multiple cases where candidates submitted certificates from unrecognized or fictitious institutions, while others allegedly relied on fabricated academic credentials to obtain government teaching positions.
Based on the findings, the Education Department has started the process of terminating the services of all 3,035 teachers identified during the investigation.
Authorities have registered 1,830 First Information Reports (FIRs) following the Vigilance Bureau's findings. All teachers named in the investigation have been included in these cases, allowing legal proceedings to move forward alongside departmental action.
In addition to dismissals, the Education Department has announced plans to recover salaries and honorariums paid to the affected teachers during their period of service. Officials indicated that the recovery will include applicable interest, increasing the financial liability for individuals found to have secured employment through fraudulent means.
The recovery process is expected to begin after the formal completion of termination procedures.
Investigators also found that some teachers had resigned before disciplinary proceedings could begin. However, officials clarified that resignation alone does not exempt an individual from legal action if evidence shows that the appointment was obtained using forged documents or false educational qualifications.
The ongoing exercise is considered one of the largest actions against fraudulent teacher appointments in Bihar. Through this initiative, the Education Department aims to strengthen transparency in recruitment, ensure that qualified educators serve in government schools, and restore public confidence in the state's education system.
