Class X Second Exam 2025 & Summer Break Updates
Summer Break in Flux: Schools Gear Up for CBSE’s Second Class X Exam
The introduction of a second Class X board exam is causing schools to rethink their summer schedules. The exam will require teachers not only to conduct the tests but also to participate in evaluating answer sheets.
Several CBSE schools are planning to adjust their academic calendars to accommodate the second board exam, tentatively scheduled from May 15 to June 1, which coincides with the traditional summer vacation period.
Schools typically close in the second week of May, but extreme heat can force them to shut earlier. To manage the exams, many institutions are considering shifting vacation dates and rescheduling post-summer assessments.
Since most schools finalize their academic calendars by November or December to help teachers and parents plan, incorporating a second exam requires careful adjustments. Some schools are exploring staggered holidays or rotation systems to ensure sufficient teacher availability.
Academic and extracurricular activities are also being reworked. If senior school teachers are occupied with exam duties, focus will shift to middle and junior school activities, with senior school events postponed to July or August.
Administrators are balancing exam duties with the need to provide teachers some uninterrupted break, as summer vacation is often their only long leave. Schools anticipate that some students will opt for the second exam to improve their scores, further influencing staffing and scheduling decisions.
