Delhi University Announces ECA and Sports Quota Admission Rules for UG 2026 | News

The University of Delhi has announced the admission process for undergraduate applicants seeking admission through the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) and Sports Supernumerary Quota for the 2026-27 academic session. Unlike the regular admission process, these categories involve practical assessments, which means seat allocation will take place separately after the third round of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG).

Regular Admission Schedule

Candidates can complete subject mapping and submit their preferred courses and colleges until 11:59 PM on July 11. Once the deadline passes, the submitted preferences will be locked automatically.

Applicants can also edit their application details during the correction window available from 10:00 AM on July 10 to 11:59 PM on July 11.

Important Date: The first CSAS undergraduate seat allocation list will be released on July 16.

ECA Quota Admissions

Students applying under the ECA quota are expected to participate in physical trials beginning around July 15. The university will publish the final trial schedule and venue details on the admission portal after Phase II concludes. No separate notifications will be sent to applicants.

Applicants may choose up to three ECA categories or sub-categories. They must upload a maximum of five certificates related to their selected activities while submitting the application. Only certificates matching the chosen category will be considered.

Delhi University provides ECA admissions across 14 categories, including:

  • Dance
  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Debate
  • Creative Writing
  • Fine Arts
  • Digital Media
  • Quiz
  • Yoga
  • Other approved extracurricular activities

ECA Merit Calculation

  • 75% weightage – Performance in the ECA trial
  • 25% weightage – CUET UG score
Candidates accepting an admission offer through the ECA quota will automatically lose any seat allotted through the regular CSAS admission process.

Sports Supernumerary Quota

Applicants under the Sports Quota must participate in discipline-specific trials. Students are allowed to apply in a maximum of three sports disciplines, while admissions are available across 28 sports.

Evaluation Pattern

Team Sports

  • 200 marks – Fundamental skills
  • 200 marks – Trial performance
  • Total: 400 marks

Individual, Dual and Combat Sports

  • Entire evaluation based on trial performance
  • Total: 400 marks

Sports certificates earned between May 1, 2023 and April 30, 2026 will be considered during the admission process.

Sports Merit Formula

  • 50% – Sports trial score
  • 25% – Evaluation of sports certificates
  • 25% – CUET UG score

Seat Availability

Delhi University has reserved 2,153 undergraduate seats under the Sports Supernumerary Quota for the 2026-27 academic session across 28 recognised sports disciplines.

Key Takeaway

Admissions under both the ECA and Sports Supernumerary Quotas will follow an independent selection process because practical trials form an essential part of the evaluation. These admissions are expected to begin after the completion of the third round of regular undergraduate seat allocations under CSAS-UG.
