Flags 22 Fake Universities in India
Think Before You Enroll! UGC Flags 22 Unrecognized Universities in India (2025)
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice highlighting
22 unapproved universities currently functioning in India as of
October 2025. These entities have been found awarding degrees
without official authorization, making their certifications
invalid under the UGC Act, 1956.
Students are strongly advised to verify an institution’s recognition
on the official UGC website before applying or taking admission.
List of Institutions Declared Fake by the UGC
Delhi
- All India Institute of Public & Physical Health Sciences (AIIPHS) State Government University, Alipur
- Commercial University Ltd., Daryaganj
- United Nations University
- Vocational University
- ADR-Centric Juridical University, Rajendra Place
- Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, New Delhi
- Vishwakarma Open University for Self-Employment, Sanjay Enclave
- Spiritual University, Rohini
- World Peace of United Nations University (WPUNU), Pitampura
- Institute of Management and Engineering, Kotla Mubarakpur
Uttar Pradesh
The state ranks second with four such unrecognized universities:
- Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth, Prayag (Allahabad)
- Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose University (Open University), Aligarh
- Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Bharat Bhavan, Matiyari, Lucknow
- Mahamaya Technical University, Noida
Andhra Pradesh
- Christ New Testament Deemed University, Guntur
- Bible Open University of India, Visakhapatnam
Kerala
- International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine (IIUPM), Kozhikode
- St. John’s University, Kishanattam
West Bengal
- Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata
- Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Thakurpukur, Kolkata
Maharashtra
- Raja Arabic University, Nagpur
Puducherry
- Sri Bodhi Academy of Higher Education, Thilaspet, Vazhutavur Road
UGC’s Official Statement
The UGC stated that these institutions have not been established
under any Central or State legislation and are not recognized under
Sections 2(f) or 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
Students and parents are urged to confirm a university’s authenticity via the
UGC official website
before enrollment to avoid falling victim to fraudulent institutions.
