Several minority-run colleges affiliated with the University of Calcutta have requested exemption from a proposed unified admission system for undergraduate courses.
The university is considering introducing a standard admission index calculated using a student's top four subject scores. This proposal was discussed in a recent meeting with principals of affiliated colleges. While some principals raised concerns during the discussion, a number of minority institutions later submitted formal objections through written communication.
Colleges including Scottish Church College, St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College, and Loreto College have formally approached the university. In their submissions, they highlighted their minority status and pointed out that they already manage admissions independently and are not part of the centralised admission system.
The principal of Scottish Church College stated that the institution clearly conveyed its minority status and requested to be kept outside the proposed changes. The college submitted its representation earlier in the week, followed by similar letters from St. Paul’s and Loreto College.
The university’s vice-chancellor confirmed that feedback from these institutions has been received and indicated that further discussions will be held to review their concerns.
