Calcutta University has decided that undergraduate students can now take their minor subject exams at their own colleges instead of being assigned to different institutions, as was previously required. This update was communicated through a notice issued on Friday by the Controller of Examinations and shared with college principals.
The change comes after repeated requests from principals, who had pointed out that hosting students from other colleges was interrupting regular classes. According to the notice, colleges affiliated with the university that operate in multiple shifts or units should arrange to seat students together during the day shift so that the examinations can be conducted efficiently.
The university explained that this new system is expected to shorten the overall exam schedule, make better use of resources and staff, and ensure consistency in how exams are managed. Several principals also noted that the decision would help minimize academic disruption by allowing more regular classes to take place throughout the semester.
