CBSE Class 10 Second Board Exams 2026: LOC Dates, Eligibility, Guidelines | News

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated the submission process for the List of Candidates (LOC) for the Class 10 second board examinations in 2026. This exam is part of the dual-exam system introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, allowing students to improve their performance in up to three subjects. The exams are expected to be held in May 2026.

Schedule for LOC Submission and Fee Payment

  • First Phase (LOC submission): March 18 to March 31, 2026
  • First Phase fee payment: Within five days after result declaration
  • Second Phase (LOC submission): Within five days of result declaration
  • Second Phase fee payment: Within the same five-day period
  • Third Phase (with late fee): Two days starting from the seventh day after results
  • Third Phase fee payment: During the same two-day window

The portal will remain open until midnight on the last day of each phase.

Guidelines for Schools

School authorities must ensure that students and parents are well informed about:

  • The purpose and limitations of the second examination opportunity
  • Eligibility criteria, timelines, and fee procedures
  • Possible allocation of exam centres away from home, with no option to change once assigned

Schools are encouraged to have interested students submit their LOC in the first phase to assist with planning. However, students may also choose to apply after results are declared.

Students placed in the compartment category must submit a fresh LOC due to possible subject changes.

Eligibility Conditions

  • Must have appeared in the main board examination
  • Must have taken at least three subjects
  • Must be either:
    • A passed student seeking improvement in up to three subjects
    • A student placed in the compartment category

Students who did not appear in three or more subjects in the main exam are not eligible and must wait for the next annual examination cycle.

No new candidates can be added, and changes to student details or subjects are generally not allowed, except in specific cases permitted by CBSE.

Additional Information

  • Internal assessment marks cannot be improved through this exam
  • Special provisions for Children With Special Needs (CWSN) apply only to previously registered candidates
  • Students under unfair means will be considered only if eligible
  • Essential Repeat (ER) category students are not eligible
  • The syllabus and exam pattern remain the same as the main examination

CBSE has advised schools to follow all guidelines carefully and ensure accurate and timely submission of student information for smooth conduct of the examination process.
