CBSE Class 12 Re-evaluation Portal Launch Postponed to June 1, 2026: Verification Process Explained | News

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has delayed the activation of its Class 12 answer-sheet verification and re-evaluation portal from May 29 to June 1, 2026.

Reason for the Delay

CBSE has decided to postpone the portal launch to allow additional improvements to the online platform. The board stated that the extra time will help ensure a smooth, transparent, and reliable experience for students applying for post-result services.

Students requiring assistance can contact the CBSE Tele-Counseling Helpline at 1800 11 8004 or send their queries via email to resultcbse2026@cbseshiksha.in.

Eligibility for Re-evaluation

Only candidates who have already obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books will be eligible to apply for verification and re-evaluation through the portal.

How the Review Process Will Work

The reopening of the portal marks the next phase of CBSE's post-result review process under the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

Students can identify specific questions where they believe marks may have been incorrectly awarded and submit objections on a question-by-question basis. Subject experts will reassess only the challenged responses. If any discrepancy is found, marks may be revised and updated results will be communicated to the student.

Instructions for Applicants

Candidates should compare their responses with the official marking scheme available on the CBSE website before submitting a request.

  • Specify the question(s) being challenged.
  • Provide reasons for requesting re-evaluation.
  • Explain how the response aligns with the official marking scheme.
  • Ensure all information is clearly presented for easy review.

Fee Structure

Service Fee
Verification of Marks Rs. 500 per answer book
Re-evaluation Rs. 100 per question

Changes Introduced Following OSM Concerns

The revised review process follows concerns raised by some students and teachers after the 2026 Class 12 examinations were evaluated entirely through the expanded On-Screen Marking system.

To improve accessibility and confidence in the review mechanism, CBSE and the Ministry of Education previously announced significant fee reductions and assured students that charges would be refunded if their marks increased after review.

  • Scanned answer-sheet copies reduced from Rs. 700 to Rs. 100 per subject.
  • Verification charges reduced from Rs. 500 to Rs. 100.
  • Re-evaluation fees reduced from Rs. 100 to Rs. 25 per question.
  • Refunds promised if marks increase after review.

Old Process vs New Process

Under the previous system, students first applied for verification and later received copies of their answer books. The current OSM-based process starts with candidates obtaining scanned copies of their evaluated scripts.

After reviewing these copies alongside the official marking scheme, students can identify discrepancies and submit question-specific objections for expert reassessment.

Discussion Around the OSM System

The introduction of On-Screen Marking has sparked debate following a decline in the Class 12 pass percentage. The pass rate fell from 88.39% in 2025 to 85.20% in 2026, marking the largest drop in seven years.

While some students and educators questioned whether the new system affected marking standards, CBSE and Education Ministry officials have maintained that evaluations were conducted entirely by trained teachers without the use of artificial intelligence.

Approximately 77,000 teachers participated in the evaluation process after receiving extensive training, according to CBSE officials.

Benefits Highlighted by CBSE

  • Digitisation of answer scripts.
  • Reduction of manual totaling errors.
  • Improved transparency in evaluation.
  • Cross-regional assessment capabilities.
  • Enhanced consistency in marking standards.

Despite the debate, the board has indicated that the digital evaluation framework is expected to remain part of future examinations.

Portal Availability

CBSE is expected to keep the verification and re-evaluation portal open for at least two days after the final scanned copy of an evaluated answer book becomes available to eligible applicants.
