A senior educator has raised concerns about technical problems in the CBSE’s newly introduced digital evaluation system, suggesting it may be slowing down the Class 12 answer sheet checking process and potentially affecting the timeline for result declaration.
More than 18 lakh students awaiting their CBSE Class 12 results could face a longer wait as issues related to the evaluation process come to light.
According to a teacher from a DAV school in Delhi, the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system—launched this year to digitize answer sheet evaluation—is encountering frequent technical disruptions. Instead of improving efficiency, the system is reportedly making the checking process more time-consuming.
This situation has sparked debate about CBSE’s shift toward digital assessment, which was intended to make evaluation quicker, more accurate, and transparent.
The teacher indicated that the assessment of key Class 12 subjects, including Business Studies and Biology, began only recently, despite exams having concluded several weeks earlier.
Several technical challenges have been highlighted, such as slow system performance, login difficulties, server instability, interruptions during marking, delays in loading scanned answer scripts, and repeated workflow disruptions. These issues are reportedly increasing the time required for examiners to evaluate each paper.
CBSE introduced the On-Screen Marking system for Class 12 exams this year, replacing the traditional manual checking method. Announced by Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, the initiative was presented as a major step toward modernizing the evaluation process.
The board had stated that this digital system would accelerate result preparation, minimize errors, improve transparency, and streamline large-scale evaluation.
However, initial feedback suggests that the transition may be facing operational hurdles.
The scale of the CBSE Class 12 examinations is significant. This year, over 18 lakh students appeared for exams across 120 subjects, and more than 10 crore answer sheets are expected to be evaluated.
Given this large volume, any slowdown in the checking process could impact a substantial number of students, both in India and abroad.
CBSE has not yet officially confirmed the result date for Class 12. Tentatively, results are expected between May 10 and May 15, 2026.
If the technical issues with the OSM system persist, there could be increased pressure on the board to either speed up the evaluation process or adjust the expected timeline. However, no official announcement regarding a delay has been made so far.
While CBSE’s move toward digital evaluation was aimed at improving efficiency, the initial implementation may not be entirely smooth if the reported issues continue.
With evaluation of major subjects reportedly starting later than usual, students are closely watching for updates on the result announcement.
An official response from CBSE regarding these concerns is still awaited.
