The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has moved its answer-sheet database and examination-related digital records from infrastructure operated by Hyderabad-based Coempt Eduteck Pvt. Ltd. to government-controlled Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers. The transition is intended to strengthen data protection measures and improve confidence in the board’s digital evaluation system.
The migration comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the board’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) initiative. Authorities are reviewing both the procurement process associated with the platform and the broader digital examination framework following reports of scanned answer-sheet concerns, portal-related technical issues, and potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Independent cybersecurity researchers had previously highlighted possible weaknesses in systems connected to the digital evaluation process. Their findings led to calls for stronger safeguards and greater oversight of student examination records and related data assets.
According to government officials, relocating the records to a government-managed cloud environment ensures that sensitive examination data remains under direct administrative control while ongoing reviews are conducted. The objective is to improve security standards, increase transparency, and address concerns regarding the management and storage of examination-related information.
The transfer of data coincided with the final phase of CBSE’s Class XII verification and re-evaluation process. The application window was scheduled to close on June 7, and board records indicated that a substantial number of requests had already been processed, including applications for both mark verification and answer-script re-evaluation.
In a parallel development, a review committee led by S. Radha Chauhan, Chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission, is examining the 2025 OSM tender process. The committee is assessing allegations that modifications to bidding requirements may have influenced the selection process in favor of Coempt Eduteck and is evaluating the overall integrity of the procurement framework.
