The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a Parenting Calendar for the 2026–27 academic session to encourage more structured communication and collaboration between schools and parents.
The Parenting Calendar has been developed in line with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aims to establish a consistent framework for engagement that promotes emotional, social, and academic development among students.
CBSE has focused on several important areas within the programme, including inclusive education, student mental wellness, and adapting to evolving academic expectations.
While digital communication platforms have made school updates easier to access, CBSE believes that in-person interaction continues to play a vital role in building trust and understanding.
The Parenting Calendar therefore encourages schools to organise offline activities such as workshops, counselling sessions, school events, and interactive parent meetings to create a more personal and effective communication environment.
Several school administrators have welcomed the initiative, stating that regular engagement with parents helps create better understanding and cooperation on matters related to students’ growth and school policies.
Educators have observed that parents of senior students often become less involved in school activities, making structured interaction programmes increasingly important.
Some schools also mentioned that notices shared through digital applications are not always reviewed directly by parents, making face-to-face meetings more valuable for clear communication.
Many modern schools are now adopting more open communication practices by allowing parents to meet principals and school authorities during working hours whenever necessary.
Informal interactions, including discussion sessions over tea or coffee, are also being used by some institutions to gather feedback and strengthen relationships with families.
Education leaders believe these efforts help parents and schools work together more effectively for the overall development and success of students.
