A petition has been submitted before the Supreme Court questioning the implementation of the Central Board of Secondary Education’s revised language framework for Class 9 students. The policy is scheduled to be introduced from the 2026 academic session.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi raised concerns regarding the timing of the policy, arguing that students preparing for Class 10 board examinations may face additional academic pressure due to the introduction of compulsory language requirements.
The revised structure was announced through a CBSE circular released on May 15. According to the notification, the new system will come into effect from July 1, 2026, for students entering Class 9.
The announcement has generated discussions among educators and parents regarding the practical implementation of the policy across schools.
Several concerns have been highlighted, including the availability of qualified teachers, adjustments to school schedules, and the ability of students to adapt to additional language subjects within a limited period.
The upcoming hearing is expected to focus on both the legal validity of the policy and the concerns surrounding its implementation.
