Jadavpur University has witnessed a substantial increase in undergraduate admission applications this year compared to the previous admission cycle.
The Faculty of Arts received 6,243 applications, marking an increase of 996 applications over last year's figure of 5,238. The Faculty of Science also reported strong growth, receiving 5,034 applications, which is 1,112 more than the number recorded during the previous admission season.
The university opened its undergraduate admission portal on May 20, shortly after the publication of Higher Secondary examination results. Faculty members believe that the timely launch of the admission process played an important role in attracting a larger number of applicants.
In the previous year, the admission portal became operational only during the first week of July. University representatives noted that delays arising from legal issues related to OBC reservations had affected the admission schedule and contributed to lower application numbers.
Teachers also observed that this year's admission timeline coincided with those of other major institutions and the centralized admission system. As a result, prospective students were able to consider Jadavpur University alongside other options without facing scheduling disadvantages.
According to faculty members, the delayed admission process last year meant that many students had already secured admission elsewhere before the university began accepting applications. The synchronized and timely opening of admission portals this year is therefore viewed as a key reason behind the rise in undergraduate applications.
