The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 following allegations related to the circulation of a leaked “guess paper.” The decision came after investigative agencies raised concerns regarding possible irregularities in the examination process.
In response to the situation, the Government of India has ordered a detailed investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Authorities have also confirmed that a fresh examination will be conducted to ensure fairness and restore confidence in the system.
Investigators are examining multiple possible sources of the leak. Preliminary findings suggest that the issue may have originated either during the printing process or through individuals associated with setting the examination paper.
Reports from Rajasthan indicate that over 45 individuals have been detained in connection with the ongoing inquiry. Officials are also reviewing claims that handwritten versions of exam-related questions were circulated before the examination date.
According to the NTA, the cancellation decision was made after carefully reviewing evidence and intelligence shared by law enforcement agencies. The agency stated that maintaining the integrity and transparency of the national examination system was its primary concern.
The NTA acknowledged the inconvenience caused to students and families but emphasized that conducting a re-exam was necessary to preserve trust in the process.
A fresh NEET-UG 2026 examination will be held soon, with revised dates expected to be announced through official channels.
Students are advised to rely only on official updates released by the NTA and avoid misinformation circulating on social media platforms. Aspirants are encouraged to continue their preparation while awaiting the revised examination schedule.
The incident has once again raised concerns regarding the security and credibility of major competitive examinations in India. Since NEET is among the country’s most competitive entrance tests, any compromise in the process directly impacts a large number of students.
By cancelling the examination and initiating a CBI investigation, authorities aim to demonstrate stricter action against malpractice and rebuild confidence in the examination system.
