The SSC GD recruitment examination conducted on May 25 witnessed major disruptions at several centres in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Complaints regarding overcrowding, seat allocation issues, cancelled shifts, and lack of communication triggered protests among candidates in multiple cities.
In Muzaffarpur, Bihar, confusion erupted after the second and third shifts of the SSC GD examination were cancelled unexpectedly. Many candidates claimed they learned about the cancellation only after reaching the examination centre.
Students questioned why no prior notification had been published online, while announcements regarding cancellation were reportedly made only at the venue through loudspeakers. Tension increased after some candidates completed the exam while others were denied the opportunity to appear.
Police personnel were later deployed to maintain order, and candidates were informed that the cancelled shifts would be conducted again on another date.
A major controversy was reported in Kanpur, where the number of candidates arriving at one examination centre allegedly exceeded the venue’s seating capacity by a large margin.
Reports suggested that while the centre could accommodate approximately 399 candidates per shift, over 800 students arrived for the examination. The overcrowding caused confusion and led to protests outside the venue.
Administrative officials and police later intervened to manage the situation, following which the scheduled examination at the centre was cancelled.
In Gorakhpur, candidates also protested after allegedly being denied entry due to seat mismatch issues. Many aspirants demanded that the examination be conducted on the same day, citing travel expenses and accommodation costs incurred to reach the centre.
The incident further increased frustration among candidates appearing for one of India’s largest recruitment examinations.
Similar unrest was reported in Prayagraj, where candidates at an examination centre allegedly discovered that the number of allotted candidates exceeded the available computer systems.
As tensions escalated, reports indicated incidents of vandalism involving computer systems, CCTV cameras, chairs, and other equipment inside the centre premises.
Some aspirants also reportedly blocked a section of GT Road, temporarily affecting traffic movement before police authorities cleared the area.
Notices were later placed at the centre informing candidates that the affected examinations would be conducted again at a later date.
Following the disruptions, the Staff Selection Commission announced that the cancelled Constable (GD) Examination 2026 shifts conducted on May 25 would be rescheduled during upcoming examination days starting from May 27 onward.
SSC also confirmed that fresh admit cards for affected candidates would be uploaded on the official website.
