Selection Procedure for Ph.D Admission 2025

• Candidates who have qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests:
  Candidates shall be exempted from St. Xavier’s University Research Entrance Test (XU-RET) conducted by the University but have to appear in the interview on the subject to be conducted by the respective Departmental Research Committee (DRC).
• Candidates who have not qualified for fellowship / scholarship in UGC-NET/ UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests:
  • The candidate will have to appear in the St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XURET). The duration of the XU-RET will be of two hours and will comprise of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of 2 marks each with a total of 100 marks for all Ph.D. programmes. Test will have two sections (as mentioned below) 50 marks (25 questions) for each.
    There will be no negative marking.

  • The Research Entrance Test will be followed by an interview on the subject concerned. Candidates who score 50% or more marks in XU-RET will be eligible to appear for the Interview.

Mode of XU-RET:

St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XU-RET) will be held in offline mode, and the candidate will be required to come to the University campus for the test.
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the XU-RET.

Mode of Interview:

Interview will be held physically, and the candidate will be required to come to the University Campus.
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the Interview.

Note: Applicants who are currently employed must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current employer in the specified format during the document verification for admission.

No modifications / changes in the NOC format will be accepted.
