The centralized admission portal for undergraduate programs in government and state-aided colleges and universities will be launched on Tuesday and will go live on Wednesday, remaining active until July 1. The portal will now use a single one-time password (OTP) system to minimize confusion. Students who have completed their school-leaving examinations are eligible to apply online.
Previously, the portal required two OTPs—one sent via SMS and another to the student’s registered email—which led to complications during the initial phase. Many students had provided inactive or incorrect email addresses, and a surge in OTP generation triggered Google’s security system, causing it to block access due to suspected automated activity. This issue prompted intervention from senior officials of the state higher education department, who had to coordinate with Google to resolve the problem.
To simplify the process, this year each student will receive only one OTP upon entering their basic information during registration. This OTP will be delivered to the mobile number the student provides. An official from the higher education department noted that while two-factor authentication enhances security, it posed difficulties for many students unfamiliar with managing both mobile and email communications.
The official added that the goal is to make the portal more accessible, especially since many students don’t regularly use email until they begin higher studies. Simplifying the process also helps reduce errors observed last year, when many students filled out forms at cyber cafes. This year, the procedure is streamlined enough for students to complete on their own. Assistance will also be available through Bangla Sahayata Kendras, and an AI-based chatbot will guide users throughout the application process.
