Admission to PG Course of Studies for the Session 2025-2027
Under Faculty Council Science, Arts, Commerce, Law, Music etc.

  • Online applications are invited from the eligible intending candidates for admission to the PG Courses of Studies for the Session 2025-2027 in Different Subjects under Faculty Council (Arts, Commerce, Law etc.) and Faculty Council (Science), The University of Burdwan. Online form will be available in the University website (www.buruniv.ac.in) on and from 26/08/2025 to 09/09/2025.
  • Eligibility criteria for admission to PG Courses of Studies: Online applications are invited from Honours Graduates or equivalent for admission to various PG Courses of Studies under Faculty Council (Science) and Faculty Council (Arts, Commerce, Law, Music etc.) for the session 2025-2027.
    MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY FOR APPLICATION - 50% MARKS FOR UNRESERVED AND 45% FOR SC, ST, OBCA, OBCB, DA, SP, EWS IN THE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION DETAILED IN THE INFORMATION SHEET.
  • The entire process of admission to the PG Programmes 2025 for candidates under reserved categories shall be concluded subject to the orders and directions passed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India and/or the Hon'ble High Court at Calcutta, as may be applicable in this regard.
  • Applications of the candidates failing to fulfil minimum eligibility criteria of admission will be rejected.
  • BEFORE FORM FILLING READ THE INFORMATION BROCHURE THOROUGHLY.
  • Candidates must keep ready a passport size photograph, scanned copies of his/her signature, admit card of 10th standard, marksheets of all examinations, reserved category certificate (if applicable) and other required document for uploading during filling the form.
  • Candidate should ensure that the Submission Status of the Application is "Successful" and retain a copy of the Application Form after Successful Submission.

  • After successful completion of Anti-Ragging undertaking, take the Anti-Ragging Undertaking Reference Number to be used in fill up the Online Application Form.
    You may retain a print out of acknowledgement of Anti-Ragging undertaking to be submitted at the time of commencement of classes, if admitted.

General Eligibility Criteria
Minimum marks for admission to the unreserved seats in all M.A./M.Sc./M.Com. Course of Studies under Faculty Councils of Science & Arts is 50% at the Honours level in the concerned/relevant subject (As per Course/Program wise Qualifying Bachelor Degree, mentioned below)from a UGC recognised University. For candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/DA/SP/EWS categories, eligibility is minimum of 45% marks in honours in the concerned/relevant subject (As per Course/Program wise Qualifying Bachelor Degree, mentioned below).

FOR SUBJECTS OTHER THAN MULTIDISCIPLINARY SUBJECTS:
80% of the total Intake for Pass outs of B.U. Students:
80% of the total intake of seats will be reserved exclusively for the pass-outs from the Under- Graduate Colleges affiliated to the University of Burdwan. Admission to these seats will be offered strictly on the basis of Grade Points to be calculated by adding 60% of Percentage marks (based on Honours/Major Subject only) obtained in the Qualifying Bachelor Degree with 20% of Percentage marks (based on the marks of the best 04 (four) subjects: Full marks 100 each) obtained in the HS or equivalent examinations' and 20% of Percentage marks (based on the marks of the best 05 (five) subjects: Full marks 100 each) obtained in the Madhyamik or equivalent examinations'. In case of the equal Grade Points, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Honours/Major subject is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours/Major subject, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. If the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also being the same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, BU.

20% of total Intake for Pass outs of Other University Students:
Remaining 20% of the seats will be filled up on the basis of Grade Points to be calculated by adding 60% of Percentage marks (based on Honours/ Major Subject only) obtained in the Qualifying Bachelor Degree with 20% of Percentage marks (based on the marks of the best 04 (four) subjects: Full marks 100 each) obtained in the HS or equivalent examinations' and 20% of Percentage marks (based on the marks of the best 05 (five) subjects: Full marks 100 each) obtained in the Madhyamik or equivalent examinations' from the applicants from Universities other than The University of Burdwan. In case of the equal Grade Points, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Honours/Major subject is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours/Major subject, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. If the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also being the same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, BU.

For admission to M.Sc in Statistics:
The 80% seat of total intake will be filled up by the students of Home University and the rest 20% seat will be filled up preferably by the students having Bachelor Degree with Statistics Honours form Other Universities. For 80% seat Category (Home University), 50% seat will be reserved for the candidates having Bachelor Degree with Statistics Honours and rest 50% of Seat will be reserved by the candidates having Bachelor Degree with Mathematics Honours.
Rest of the procedure will remain same as for subjects other than multidisciplinary subjects.

FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY SUBJECTS:
Seats in the multidisciplinary subject seats will be filled up on the basis of Grade Points. Multidisciplinary subject, the Grade Points to be calculated by adding 60% of Percentage marks (based on Honours/ Major Subject only) obtained in the Qualifying Bachelor Degree with 20% of Percentage marks (based on the marks of the best 04 (four) subjects: Full marks 100 each) obtained in the HS or equivalent examinations' and 20% of Percentage marks (based on the marks of the best 05 (five) subjects: Full marks 100 each) obtained in the Madhyamik or equivalent examinations'. In case of the equal Grade Points, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Honours/Major subject is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. In case of the uniform score in the concerned Honours/Major subject, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in Higher Secondary Examination is to be considered and calculated for determining the higher position in the merit list. If the percentage of Higher Secondary marks is also being the same, percentage of Secondary Examination will be considered for ranking. If, at all these stages, performances of more than one student are found to be same, then final decision regarding selection of candidate will be referred to Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, BU.
  • For admission in M.Sc. in Environmental Science, the following rule will be adhered while preparing the list of selected candidates:
    1. 60% of the total seats will be earmarked for honours students in Environmental Science from the affiliated colleges of the University of Burdwan.
    2. 40% of the total seats will be earmarked from other relevant subjects mentioned under eligibility criteria.
  • For admission in M.Sc. in Biotechnology, five (05) seats will be earmarked under Unreserved category for applicants with honours in Biotechnology from collegesunder the University of Burdwan.
