Admission to Ph.D. (Tech./Sci.)in Computer Science and Engineering 2025

Applications are invited for admission to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Calcutta (JD-2, Sector-III, Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700106) for Ph.D. Course and subsequent research work leading to the Ph.D. degree. Interested candidates should apply in the prescribed proforma by paying Rs. 100/- (online) through SBI Collect **[https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/]. The application proforma is available in this advertisement on the university website.

Please note that the purpose of this advertisement and the subsequent selection process, as detailed below, is to select the right candidate for enrollment into our Ph.D. program. No scholarship is provided or granted by the Department or the University based on this selection into the Ph.D. program.

The conditions for eligibility will be guided overall by the University of Calcutta Regulations for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), 2016 (https://www.caluniv.ac.in/PhD-Dlit-Dsc/Ph.D.Regulations-2016.pdf).
Eligibility: M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech. /B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, or equivalent, M. Sc. (Computer Science) or equivalent, and MCA. Candidates with B.Tech./B.E. may apply for the program as per provisionslaid down in Section 6.4 of the Ph.D. regulations. The same criteria would also be applicable for MCA students. The final semester/year students for the above-qualifying courses may also apply. However, if selected, such candidates must complete their qualifying degree before the date of enrolment.
The admission procedure consists of a written test followed by an interview for candidates, successful in the same. All the applicants except those who have already passed UGC/CSIR (JRF) examinations, including NET/SET/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations or completed the M.Tech./M.E. degree in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent examination, are to appear in the written Examination. However, they must apply within the due date and appear in the interview.
Syllabus for the Test: The questions for the admission test and interview will be based on topics of the following areas: Discrete Mathematics, Operating Systems, Data Structures, Algorithms, Computer Networks, Database Management Systems, Programming Languages (C, C++, Java), Computer Architecture, Artificial Intelligence Machine learning etc. The interview will be based on basic computing knowledge and the candidate's research emphasis.
Maximum Number of seats: 17.
Reservations to appropriate categories will follow West Bengal Higher Educational Institutions (Reservations in Admissions) Rules, 2013.

Important Dates and Deadlines:

The application form and a copy of the SBI payment receipt (Through SBI COLLECT) must be submitted by June 08, 2025.

Tentative date of common written test: June 20, 2025.

Tentative date of interview: June 26, 2025.
