Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. (Sc) program of the Department of Environmental Science, University of Calcutta. Willing candidates should apply in the prescribed profoma along with Rs. 100/- (Rupees one hundred only) and attested copies of all mark-sheets/certificates from Madhyamik to the work leading to the. Ph.D. (Sc) degree in Environmental Science, University of Calcutta, should apply in the preseribed proforma along with attested copies of all mark-sheets/certificates from Madhyamik to the Master's Degree. Applications should reach the office of the Department of Environmental Science, (Room No-863, 8th Floor, 35 Ballygunge circular Road, Kolkata-700019, between 12 noon to 4 pm on 4.11.2025 (4th November 2025).

A maximum of 14 (fourteen) Ph.D. students may be accommodated if found suitable. Final admission for PhD program is subject to Ph.D. rules and regulations of the University and the Government notification for reservation rules (with notification no. 97-Edn (U)/IU-89/13) dated 2nd January, 2014.

Candidates having M.Sc. degree in Environmental Science and allied subjects, from University of Calcutta or other Universities considered equivalent there to are eligible.

Candidates will have to appear in a written Examinatiqn followed by an interview. Candidates who have cleared NET / GATE / SLET / equivalent examinations are exempted from the Written Examination and entitled directly to appear in the interview.

Mode of written test:-

A one-hour written examination will be held in the Dept. of Environmental Science. The question will be in the form of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) based on Post Graduate (M.Sc.) syllabus of Environmental Science.

Notification of selected candidates for enrollment in the Ph.D. program will be displayed on the Departmental notice board after approval from the competent authority.

Note:

• Self-attested photocopies of all relevant testimonials (e.g. Certificate if belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PC. Final mark-sheet and certificate of M.Sc. (if applicable), Evidence (if any) of qualifying NET/ GATE/ SLET/ equivalent examinations) must be submitted by the candidate along with the application form. Incomplete applications will not be entertained.
• Qualifying RET does neither ensure any financial support nor guarantee registration for the Ph.D. degree.
• The candidate has to provide a Statement of Purpose (SoP) justifying its suitability into the Ph.D. programme in Environmental Science at the time of interview together with other relevant documents.
