Admission to the Ph.D. Programme (July-December 2025): Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Law & Management (FISLM)
Applications are invited from Indian nationals for admission to the PhD programme in the:
- School of Advanced Studies in Industrial Pollution Control Engineering
- School of Cognitive Science
- School of Education Technology
- School of Illumination Science, Engineering, and Design
- School of Languages and Linguistics
- School of Laser Science and Engineering
- School of Materials Science & Nanotechnology
- School of Media, Communication & Culture
- School of Mobile Computing and Communication
- School of Natural Products Studies
- School of Nuclear Studies & Application
- School of Oceanographic Studies
- School of Water Resources Engineering
- School of Women's Studies

All applicants must have complete results of a 2-year MA/MSc/ME/MTech/MPharm or equivalent degree from any university/institute recognized by the UGC with at least 55% marks in aggregate; Or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.

Applicants who have obtained an MA/MSc/ME or equivalent degree of less than two (2) years' duration must have completed at least a total of five (5) years of undergraduate and postgraduate study in a UGC-recognised university/institute.

Applicants seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale, wherever the grading system is followed.

Candidates should apply in the prescribed form available on the website www.jadavpuruniversity.in.

Candidates may apply to more than one School/Department and must pay an application fee of Rs. 500/- for each School/Departmental PhD programme online through the SBI Collect System using a credit card, debit card, or net banking.

After payment, the downloaded form should be submitted between 02 September, 2025 and 22 September, 2025 (11:30 A.M. to 04:30 P.M.) [except Saturday, Sunday and WB Govt. & JU holidays] by person or by post along with an online payment receipt and all testimonials to the Office of the Dean & Secretary, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Law & Management, 1st Floor of School of Oceanographic Studies Building (Opposite to University Press), Jadavpur University Main Campus, Kolkata - 700032. The sealed envelope containing the Application (along with the documents) should be superscribed "Application to Ph.D. Programme under FISLM, session July-December 2024".

Those applicants who intend to submit the application form through speed post (Postal Address: Office of the Dean & Secretary, Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Law & Management, Jadavpur University, Kolkata – 700032) may submit the scanned copy of the signed forms along with the testimonials to the email ID secretaryfislm@jadavpuruniversity.in after submission of the application fees. However, the university shall not be liable for any postal delay.
The following should be submitted along with the application form:

Two recent passport-size photographs.

Attested copies of all mark sheets and certificates, Class 10 board examination admit card/certificate for verification of age, SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PD/EWS certificate, wherever applicable.

UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/GATE/GPAT/CEED/DST-INSPIRE/VISVESVARAYA or similar other National level tests certificate/any other fellowship documents.

The online payment receipt, downloaded from the SBI server after online payment.
Candidates will be selected through a Written Entrance Test (WRET) and a Viva Voce/Presentation.

All applicants are requested to check the eligibility criteria specified below against each School/Department before applying, as qualifying for NET/GATE/SET is mandatory for some schools/departments.

The Candidates who have qualified for Assistant Professor/ admission to Ph.D. programme/Fellowship/Scholarship in the UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/GATE/GPAT/CEED/DSTINSPIRE/VISVESVARAYA or similar other National level tests (having a valid score in these examinations as percentage, not percentiles) will be exempted from the Written Entrance Test (WRET) conducted by the respective Schools/Department. Other candidates must appear in the Written Entrance Test (WRET) (dates to be notified in due time). All notifications regarding selection will be published on the university website (https://jadavpuruniversity.in). Candidates are requested to follow web portal notifications from time to time.

For the selection of candidates based on the national level examination test score/WRET test score and Interview, a weightage of 70% for the national level test score/ WRET test score and 30 % for the performance in the interview/viva-voce will be considered for preparing the final merit list.

The qualifying marks in WRET will be 50% for General category applicants. WRET will consist of 50% questions covering research methodology, and 50% will be subject-specific. The syllabi of WRET for each specific school/department will be available on the university web portal. The admission test (WRET) schedule and procedure will be notified in due time at a later date through the university web portal (https://jadavpuruniversity.in).

A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

For selection of candidates who have qualified for Assistant Professor / admission to Ph.D. programme / Fellowship / Scholarship in the UGC-NET / CSIR-NET / GATE / GPAT / SET / CEED / DST-INSPIRE / VISVESVARAYA/DBT or similar other National level tests, a weightage of 70% for the score in the concerned National level test and 30 % for the performance in the interview/vivavoce shall be given.

All selected candidates must have obtained qualifying marks (50%) in both the Interview & written Admission Test (WRET), wherever applicable.

Proper documents must be submitted with applications for claiming exemption from the written admission test.
An applicant will not be considered for admission if s/he is already enrolled in a Ph.D. programme in any other university/institute or in any other department of Jadavpur University.

A list of eligible candidates for the written test (offline) and the date and time of the written admission test and direct Interview will be displayed on the Jadavpur University website tentatively last week of September 2024.
