Admission to M.A. in Journalism & Mass communication for the academic session 2025-2026
Last Date of online submission of application is 12/09/2025.
As per the order of the Govt. of West Bengal there is no application fee. However, there will be Admission Test fees of Rs.100/- for applicants belongs to SC/ST/PD/EWS categories and Rs. 200/- for other applicants.
Last date of submission of online admission test fees is 14/09/2025.
The University shall not be liable for any implication (be responsible in any way) in case any of the information submitted by the applicant is found to be erroneous and incorrect. His/her application/counseling/admission may be terminated in such cases.
A student whose mark-sheet/grade-card does NOT mention marks obtained, and only shows grades, must submit an equivalent certificate/formula from the concerned University to convert grades to percentage marks at the time of documents verification. Failure to do so will lead to cancellation of her/his application.
Candidate who have appeared in the U.G.(Honours/Major) Final Examination this year, the result of which are yet to be published are also eligible to apply. They should input the marks of five(5) semesters together for U.G.(Honours/Major) or its equivalent examination and they must have the minimum eligibility on the basis of the marks secured. For such candidates the latest available Honours/Major marks of five (5) semesters will be considered for preparing the merit list. They should submit the final mark-sheet at the time of verification/admisssion.
Clarification of Honours papers:
Non CBCS system: Honours/Major papers only
CBCS system: Core papers and DSE papers only
Eligibility Criteria: 3-Year Honours/Major degree in any stream from any University/Institute recognized by the UGC with at least 50% marks (45% for OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST/PD category) in Honours/Major papers.
(In case Honours/Major is NOT specified/mentioned in the mark-sheet for the Degree of an applicant, then he/she will NOT be eligible.)
For candidates under SC/ST category:
As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and 1465–BCW/MR–67/10 dt.30/04/2010 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the states other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in educational institutions in West Bengal unless they can produce Domicile Certificate for residing in West Bengal for at least 10 years issued by the competent authority.
For candidates under OBC-A/OBC-B category:
The candidates who will be provisionally selected under the OBC-A and OBC-B categories must produce an OBC certificate as per Gazette notification No. 1106-BCW/MR-33/2025 dated 3rd June, 2025 and 917-BCW/MR-33/2025 dated 8th May, 2025 issued by Backward Classes Welfare Department, Govt. of West Bengal.
OBC-A and OBC-B candidates of the states other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in educational institutions in West Bengal, unless they can produce a domicile certificate of 10-year residency issued by competent authority.
For Candidates under PD category:
Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD category under RPD Act, 2016.
For E.W.S category:
- Reservation under Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) will be as per notification no. 339-Edn (CS)/OM-74L/2023 dated 26th May, 2023 from Government of West Bengal.
- The EWS certificate of 2025-26 financial year is only valid for admission in this academic session.
Admission test will be conducted based on General Knowledge, current affairs and fundamental knowledge of Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, Print Media, Audio-Visual media and New media.
Selection will be done based on a written test only. The written test will be in MCQ mode and will be conducted through an OMR sheet.
Written admission test will be held on 20/09/2025 at 01:00 P.M. at JU main campus. Publication of provisional merit list: 25/09/2025 after 05:00 P.M.
Tuition Fees for for M.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication is Rs. 26,200/- (Rs. 13,100/- per year)
Intake: 62 (Free-ship 20% of intake- University norms applied)
