Online applications are invited for the Ph.D. Admission Test – 2024 (PAT-2024) for admission to the Ph.D. Programme. Interested and eligible applicants can fill up the online application form through the website www.lnmu.ac.in or the link available on the University website: www.lnmu.ac.in from 26/11/2025 onwards.

Eligibility
  • A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. Programme should have a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed) in the subject concerned or allied subjects from a recognised university.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks (55% to 50%), or an equivalent relaxation of an equivalent grade, will be allowed for SC/ST/BC/EBC/Differently-abled categories of candidates.
  • Candidates having the required eligibility till the final date of application can apply for PAT-2024.
Exemption from the PAT-2024
  • Candidates who have passed UGC-NET/BET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED or have secured grants for research, such as fellowships/scholarships offered by DBT/ICMR/ICAR/DST-INSPIRE/CSIR/ICHR etc., will be exempted from the Ph.D. Admission Test.
  • Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors who have been appointed on a substantive post in the UGC pay scale in the teaching department of the University or a Constituent College of this University, who have completed their probation successfully with at least two years of uninterrupted service, will be exempted from the Test.
    Teachers appointed in self-financed courses and teachers belonging to those colleges running on a self-financed basis will not be exempted.
  • Non-teaching employees of this University who are holding a substantive appointment for more than five years, have secured at least 55% marks in a Master’s Degree in the subject concerned, and have published at least two research papers in any reputed refereed journals or journals identified by the UGC would also be exempted.
  • Candidates who have passed PAT 2021-22 and PAT 2023 will be exempted from the Ph.D. Admission Test.
Note 1: Candidates exempted from PAT-2024 are also required to apply online with the requisite fee.
Note 2: Candidates of the exempted categories will have to appear directly before the interview board as per the schedule to be published later, along with candidates who qualify PAT-2024.

How to Apply
Candidates are required to visit the website www.lnmpat.in or the link available on the University website: www.lnmu.ac.in and follow the PAT-2024 process to fill up the Admission Application Form.

Duly filled-up and completed forms can be submitted online along with necessary supporting documents and the requisite Test Fee. Application forms incomplete in any respect will be rejected.

i General Category Candidates Rs. 3,000/-
ii SC / ST / BC / EBC / Differently-abled / Women / EWS Rs. 2,000/-
iii Late Fine Rs. 500/-
Mode of Payment of Fee:
Candidates are required to make only online payment (non-refundable) through the payment gateway displayed during filling up the online application form.
Pattern of Test
The Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT-2024) will consist of two papers of 100 marks each.
  • Paper–I: Shall consist of 50 multiple-choice questions on general teaching and research aptitude (50 × 2 = 100 marks).
  • Paper–II: Shall consist of 9 subjective-type questions in the subject concerned, based on the syllabus of the Post Graduate course of L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga. communication in the form of email/SMS/phone will be made to the candidates. All necessary information will be available in the website only.
    - Very Short Answer: 4 × 5 marks = 20 marks (Maximum 50 words)
    - Short Answer: 3 × 10 marks = 30 marks (Maximum 150 words)
    - Long Answer: 2 × 25 marks = 50 marks (Maximum 300 words)
Admission Test
The test will be held in two sittings as follows:
Date: 10/01/2026 (Saturday)
Paper Time
Paper-I 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.
Paper-II 01:00 P.M. to 03:30 P.M.
The minimum qualifying marks will be as follows:
- For General Category Candidates: 50% of aggregate marks
- For Reserved Category Candidates: 45% of aggregate marks
Admission Test Center
The test will be held in Darbhanga at different centres, which will be communicated to the candidates properly through the Admit Card.
Reservation
  • The Reservation policy of the State Government will be applicable to the total number of seats available in each subject at the time of admission.
  • Of the total available Ph.D. seats in each subject (after applying the reservation roster):
    • 50% of the seats shall be reserved for candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/BET/UGC–CSIR NET/GATE/CEED.
    • The remaining 50% of the seats shall be filled through the Ph.D. Admission Test conducted by the university.
  • If eligible candidates with UGC-NET/BET/UGC–CSIR NET/GATE/CEED qualifications are not available in a particular subject, the vacant seats in that category shall be filled based on the merit list of the Ph.D. Admission Test, following the reservation roster.
Important
  • The Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT-2024) shall be organised as per provisions contained in the Uniform Ordinance and Regulations issued by the Chancellor’s Secretariat vide memo no. BSU-05/2010-2684/GS(I) dated 21/09/2017 (as amended up to date).
  • The final result shall be prepared as per the Bihar Govt. reservation roster. In case of a tie in the total score obtained in PAT-2024, marks obtained in the Post Graduate degree will be considered. If the PG marks are also same, the date of birth will be considered.
  • The University reserves the right to revise, amend, update or delete any part of this Notice without any prior notice. Any change so made shall be updated on the University website.

  • Applicants are advised to check the portal regularly for any admission updates. Grievances resulting from not having visited the portal will not be entertained.
  • In case of non-compliance with any of the requirements for admission, including non-submission of relevant documents and/or non-payment of fee within the prescribed date and time, the applicant will lose his/her candidature.
