The National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test (NHTET) is a scheme designed to identify and certify the most meritorious candidates for eligibility as Assistant Lecturers and Teaching Associates in Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) affiliated with NCHMCT. A candidate who qualifies in the NHTET and is declared eligible for the post of Assistant Lecturer will be entitled only to apply for vacancies advertised by NCHMCT-affiliated IHMs — whether in the Government, PSU-owned, or Private sectors. Qualifying NHTET does not confer any right to automatic appointment or induction in any of these institutions. Selection for the posts of Assistant Lecturer or Teaching Associate will be made through a separate recruitment process conducted by the respective institute or authority.

Eligibility to sit in NHTET
  • Full time Bachelor’s Degree (not on ODL mode) in Hospitality Administration / Hotel Management / Culinary Art after 10+2 from a recognized University / Institute with at least 55% marks and at least 2 years Hospitality Industry Experience after obtaining Degree (6 months IT is part of Courses, not to be considered as experience for this purpose).
    OR
    Full time Master’s Degree in Hospitality Administration / Hotel Management / Culinary Art with at least 55% marks from a recognized University / Institute after full time Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma (not on ODL mode) for minimum of 3 years duration after 12th from a recognised Board(the diploma for which pre-requisite minimum qualification fixed by the Regulator viz NCHMCT/AICTE/SBTE/Recognised University, is 12th pass only and not 10th) in Hospitality Administration / Hotel Management / Culinary Art from a recognized University/ Institute with at least 55% marks.
  • Candidates having full time Bachelor Degree (not on ODL mode) in Hospitality / Hotel Administration / Management / Culinary Art with 55% or more marks in aggregate and thereafter appeared in the final semester (i.e. in 4th Semester) / final year exam of the master’s degree for which the result will be declared within 2 months from the date of NHTET exam and have passed all subjects of previous year/semesters, can also apply. It may be noted that the candidates who are in 2 nd year (3rd Semester) of their Master’s Degree in Hospitality or even appeared in final semester but there is any paper back in earlier semester, are not eligible to apply.
  • Age should not be more than 35 years. Relaxation of age by 5 years for those belong to SC/ST/PD categories, 3 years for those belong to OBC categories is applicable as per rules. The maximum age in NHTET to be held from January to May, will be reckoned as on 31st July of the same year. Similarly maximum age in NHTET to be held from July to November, the maximum age will be reckoned as on 31st December of the same year in following manner:
    (TA– Teaching Associates. AL – Assistant Lecturer)
    - General and EWS Categories – TA 30 years, AL 35 years.
    - OBC Category- TA 33 years, AL 38 Years.
    - SC/ST and PD Categories- TA 35 years, AL 40 years.
    Therefore, the candidates belong to General category and EWS category as well as fulfilling the age criteria of 35 years as on cut-off date, belong to OBC category as well as fulfilling the age criteria of 38 years and belong to SC/ ST/ PD category as well as fulfilling the age criteria of 40 years, will be eligible to apply.
    On passing the NHTET, they will be allowed to apply against any vacancy of AL (of which, maximum age is 35 years with relaxation for reserved candidates as stated above) and for the post of TA (of which, maximum age is 30 years with relaxation for reserved candidates as stated above).
Scheme and Days of Test
  • The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held once in a calendar year. However, in case of insufficient candidates are qualified, the NCHMCT can hold the exam twice in a calendar year. The test will be held on a single day in two separate sessions as under.

    Paper-III 100 Questions 200 (each question will carry 2 marks)
    Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test aptitude and method towards teaching, reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness/knowledge of the candidate. Fifty (50) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer all fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting twice/ thrice, it will be counted as negative mark. However, there will be no negative mark for the question not attempted.

    Paper-II shall consist of 50 multiple choice questions of Nutrition, Food science, General Management, hotel accounts and Food Costing. Each question will carry two marks.

    Paper-III shall consist of 100 multiple choice questions. Paper III will be of two types, one for "Generic" and another for "F & B Specialisation".
    • For the Candidates having requisite qualification as per 3.1 & 3.2 (Eligibility) above in Hotel / Hospitality Management / Administration (without any specialisation):
      The Generic paper will consist of 100 MCQs from the four core areas of hospitality i.e. Food Production, F & B Service and Management, Accommodation Operation Management and House Keeping Management (25 questions from each area). Each question will carry two marks.
    • Similarly, For the Candidates having requisite qualification as per 3.1 & 3.2 (Eligibility) above in Culinary Art/ Science specialisation:
      The F & B Specialisation paper will consist of 100 MCQs from the two core areas of F & B Specialisation i.e. Food Production and F & B Service (60 questions and 40 questions respectively). Each question will carry two marks.
    Candidate has to choose any one of the two papers (Paper III) above {either (a) or (b)} according to their qualification. It may be noted that, the candidates will be allowed to appear in practical skill test only in that option he/she has taken for theory, according to his/her qualification. For example, if a candidate has opted for Paper (a) i.e. Generic in Theory, then he/she cannot take practical for option (b).
  • The test will be conducted in pen and paper mode, the responses to be given on the OMR response sheet at the allotted exam centre only. There will not be any online/CBT mode test.
  • Those Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged) candidates who are not in a position to write in their own hand-writing can also avail the services of writer (scribe) by making prior request (at least one week before the date of NHTET) in writing to the Co-ordinator of the NHTET.
  • After the NHTET exam is over, the answer key will be uploaded in https://nchm.gov.in when the candidate can go through it and challenge the answer with documentary proof within 3 days’ time by clicking the link only. No challenge of the answer after the last date will be accepted. In case, any candidate challenges any answer, the same will be forwarded to the expert committee for a decision and the decision along with final Answer Key will be uploaded in https://nchm.gov.in by another 3 working days. Answer sheets will be evaluated on the basis of new (final) Answer Key by another 10 working days. Result will then be declared through the web portal of NCHMCT (https://nchm.gov.in). The Certificates of passing the NHTET will be uploaded in the above portal/website, so that the candidates may download it and take a print-out, which will be valid to appear for any Skill test at any of NCHMCT affiliated Institutes against their vacancy notification. No physical certificate will be printed and issued by this Council.
  • Candidate can appear as many as times he/she can during his/her permissible period i.e. up to 35 years of age on the specified date of the notification. However, an OBC (non-creamy layer) may apply up to 38 years of age and SC/ST/PD may apply up to 40 years of age.
Procedure & Criteria for Declaration of Result
NHTET (knowledge test on MCQ) will comprise of following steps:

Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in NHTET for considering a candidate eligibility for Assistant Lecturer and Teaching Associates in NCHM and its any affiliated IHM:

The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in PaperI, Paper-II, Paper-III and Aggregate of three Papers, to become eligible for both i.e.
Assistant Lecturer and Teaching Associate as given below:

Therefore, the candidate declared pass for applying against Teaching Associateship will not be eligible to apply against any vacancy of Assistant Lecturer. Such candidate has to take further chance in subsequent NHTET to pass with the required percentage prescribed for becoming eligible to the post of Assistant Lecturer.

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a detailed mark sheetcum-certificate will be prepared and send to such candidates. The said certificate will remain valid for the period mentioned on it, to apply for a post of Assistant Lecturer/Teaching Associates in NCHM or any of its affiliated IHMs.

Step III: Those candidates who have not cleared step I, a detailed tabulation sheet containing marks will be prepared with a remark ‘not cleared’ and will be displayed in the web portal https://nchm.gov.in.

It may be noted that the above qualifying criteria decided by NCHMCT is final and binding. However, the NCHMCT has the power to change the qualifying criteria if feel necessary and notify along with reason for change before declaring the result.
How to Apply?
  • Candidate should go through the details of the Brochure and see the requirement to fill the application form on-line in the portal https://nchm.gov.in. There will be two windows available in the portal - one will be in the name of "Generic" is for the candidates qualified with General Hospitality / Hotel Management / Administration and another will be in the name of "F&B Specialisation" for the candidates qualified with Culinary Art/Science.
  • Candidates have to pay the Application Fee through Banking Payment Gateway by using Debit/Credit Card or by using UPI or other options available in the link.
  • Scan copy of passport size photograph in the required resolution and required pixel should be maintained to upload that in the application.
  • Scan copy of one of the valid ID card in the required resolution and required pixel will also be required to upload in the application. ID card can be Adhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving Licence and Passport.
  • Scan copy of the signature of the candidate in the required resolution and required pixel also be required to upload in the application.
  • All the information so filled by a candidate should be correct and spellings should also be correct.
  • Mobile number and the e-mail id should be valid, since authentication will be done through mail id.
  • Candidate has to follow the schedule of events, since no separate communication will be made by the Council to the individual Candidate.
  • Candidates not having Post Graduation Degree in Hospitality, need to fill the details of experience at least of two years in the Hospitality Industry (established Hotel, registered with Govt. or classified or other Hospitality Industry) after obtaining the Degree/Diploma in Hospitality. The information should be correct and factual and having documentary proof. Industrial Training done to complete the Degree/Diploma, will not be counted as experience. The experience mentioned in application, will be recorded in the NHTET certificate on the event of qualifying the exam. Therefore, in case of false information about Experience during NHTET, and subsequently the candidate fails to present the same experience certificate from the same Hotel or Industry as mentioned in the NHTET Certificate, during their selection in any IHM, it will be treated under ‘falsification of the Information’ and the NHTET Certificate will be cancelled at once with debarment of next two chance from applying for NHTET.

Rs. 500/- for all female and transgender candidates as well as SC/ST/PD category candidates.
